I’m having trouble moving/resetting the roon core to my Synology 218+. Initially I set up the core on my MacBook Pro and it is not recognizing the Rendu. It does see the music files on the NAS just fine and has transferred that without issue, and I can play audio files through my MacBook output without issue, but I am not able to set up the NAS as an output for the audio - Roon isn’t seeing it as an option, only the Linksys that ties to the NAS. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling on the NAS but it defaulted to the MBP. Thoughts?
Thanks for contacting support, I’d be happy to take a look over this issue with you. Just to confirm you are attempting to use your Synology 218+ as the Core and you have connected the UltraRendu to your Router?
I am not certain what you mean by setting the NAS as an output for the Audio as the Synology 218+ NAS doesn’t have an HDMI out or an Analog out.
If you have connected the UltraRendu to your Router and it is not working that way, I have a few followup questions:
Can you please post a screenshot of your Roon Settings -> Audio page?
Can you confirm that you have connected a DAC to the UltraRendu that the connected DAC is powered on and has the correct input selected?
Can you please list the model/manufacturer of the Router and any switches/range extenders?
Have been emailing my responses to no avail so I will respond here. The rendu is hardwire connected to the Synology through a Linksys Range Extender (both are cabled to the extender), and then the rendu is also connected to the DAC. Works flawlessly on Kinsky, using Minimserver on the NAS and Minimwatch on my macbook, and sounds great. In my audio settings for Roon, it only shows the Linksys Range Extender in the network available Zones, but does not find the rendu. So, I cannot choose that renderer/DAC as an output because it isn’t showing up in my Zone choices. It does find my usb connected Dragonfly, for instance, as well as of course my Mac outputs. I need to have Roon control the NAS to send the signal to the Rendu and DAC. Help!
Can you please provide a screenshot of the Linksys Range Extender as your Zone?
Do you have a DAC connected to the Rendu at the time you search for it in Roon?
Is your DAC and powered on?
Does the Dragonfly show up when connected to the Rendu?
What happens if you select that Linksys Zone in Roon and try playing back music to it, does it work?
I would try to see if you can connect your Synology and Rendu directly to your Router first and check if that works. Range extenders are known to cause issues in Networking and making sure that everything is operational when connected directly to the router will give us a good data point. Please let me know your findings with my above suggestions.
Again, my screenshot is not working (thanks to upgrade to High Sierra). I can give you whatever you need on that screen, but in Audio Settings, Linksys Extender shows up as the only Zone choice under Networked devices. Yes the DAC is connected to the rendu, and works flawlessly using Kinsky as my music player. DAC is on. Dragonfly is not connected to the rendu, its connected to the macbook. It shows up in Audio Settings under “Connected to this Mac”. I can choose the Linksys Zone, but no audio is getting to the rendu (which it should, since it works fine when using Kinsky. Connecting directly to the router is not practical, therefore the extender. Let me know your thoughts, or perhaps we have a phone call.
One other point: the Kinsky player software recognizes the rendu just fine, not the Synology or Linksys (which are not visible as choices), which is why I thought that moving the Core to the synology from the Macbook might help (just as I have the Minimserver on the Synology to run the Kinsky commands not on the Macbook).
I just reread the thread and need to emphasize again: the Core is on the Macbook, not the Synology. My first post theorized that moving the Core over to the Synology might help solve the problem. Again, I can play all of my files that are on the Synology using Roon, but only with me Macbook output, and not through the rendu. Makes sense?
Do you by any chance have a firewall blocking traffic for Roon? I would use these instructions from Apple to make sure that Roon is added to the list of exceptions. Since you mention that other Apps are working properly but not Roon, I am thinking something is blocking the connection to the Rendu, either a firewall or an Antivirus. If you have an Antivirus, I would try to temporarily disable that as well.
What mode is your Rendu in? You can access the Web Administration interface by navigating to http://www.sonicorbiter.com/, and this page provides additional information regarding this setup. Is the Rendu in Roon Ready mode under Audio Apps Switcher or in another mode?
What kind of DAC are you trying to connect to the Rendu? I would try to see if you are able to connect the Dragonfly to the Rendu, verify if that works and then connect the other DAC. I understand if it is not practical to connect the Rendu to the Router, but if you are able to temporarily do this it will give us a good data point of where things could be going wrong and where to look. Please let me know your reply to the above questions/suggestions.
The firewall has been turned off (though I have just turned it back on w/Roon enabled).
I will check on the rendu when I have time, though am traveling all week. It is seen just fine by the Kinsky software, fwiw.
I think the rendu to DAC connection is just fine, as I can play my music files from the Synology NAS through the rendu to the AMR DAC no problem using the Kinsky software, and controlling from my Macbook.
Can I ask you to extend the trial period to see if we can work through this? I like the software so far, but this getting a bit frustrating. If not I’m afraid I’ll need to cancel. Please advise.
I have PM’d you regarding your request for a trial extension. I would check to see if you have any other firewalls or Antivirus software that could be preventing the detection of the UltraRendu as Roon operates a bit differently than Kinsky. I have heard of reports that applications such as “Little Snitch” could cause similar issues so I would be sure to double check .
What is the exact model of the AMR DAC? Does the Dragonfly work as expected with the Rendu? If you can temporarily connect the Rendu to the Router and see if that works, it will give us some useful information here as well.
