Moving music files from NAS to WD My Book - questions

I want to see if the responsiveness of the Roon interface improves by connecting my music files directly to my ROCK NUC via USB. It is my understanding that Western Digital My Book external USB drives come with hardware encryption and backup software, so I have a few questions related to those.

If I was to assume that those two features (hardware encryption and backup software) would not interfere with the move of my music files from the NAS to the new USB drive, this is what I would do:

The WD My Book comes formatted in exFAT, so I would just connect it to my PC and copy the music files/directories onto it. Then, I would back up my Roon library and remove the NAS as a watched folder. Then, I would connect the My Book to the shut-down ROCK NUC and start the NUC back up again. Then, I would add the USB drive attached to the NUC as the watched folder. It is my understanding that that procedure would work and preserve my library settings/data.

Questions:

Is it possible to use the hardware encryption of the drive while it is connected to the ROCK NUC? This isn’t important to me - just a curiosity.

Will the backup software that comes with the drive work while the drive is attached to the ROCK NUC? I have read that the drive is not configured for Linux, so my concern is that ROCK will not play nice with the drive in the formatting that the drive comes in. I assume, however, that the software runs on a separate PC and the My Book is just another location for it to work with.

Have I missed anything? Any reason why I should just re-format the WD My Book before going through all that?

Thanks for any help you might provide.
