Moving Roon Server to a new computer

I am having problems that I posted about before and I think moving Roon to another computer may solve them.

I am only authorized one Roon Server on my license.

So, can someone give me the steps that I need to take to:

  1. Get Roon server off my old Windows computer
  2. Get it added back to my new Windows computer?

Thanks!

Assuming you have a database backup the process is basically install on the new pc, authorization removes the lic from the old device and then import your backup

This Roon help page should help …

Also:

I moved my Roon Server from one Mac to another recently.

Since that there shouldn’t be a huge difference in the process, the only thing I’d suggest is to start a fresh backup before you move the server and restore it on the new machine.

It’s actually pretty straightforward.

  1. In Roon Settings > Backup, run a backup on the old computer. Save it somewhere accessible to the new computer (on a NAS or a portable or thumb drive).
  2. Go into task manager on the old computer and end task on Roon Server, then click into the Startup tab and disable Roon Server so it won’t start again.
  3. If you haven’t already, install Roon on the new computer.
  4. When you start Roon, it won’t find your old server since it’s no longer running. You’ll get a prompt about using a different Roon server, and that’s what you want to do.
  5. When you select the new server you’ll get a warning that you only have one license and asking if you want to deauthorize the old server, which is what you want to do.
  6. Once Roon is running, restore your backup to the new computer.
  7. Crank some tunes.

Can’t be explained better. :+1:
