Moving to another HDD

Hi

Before I really get stuck in, curating and editing 1000’s of entries to get my library “just so” within the context of Roon, I have a major question; ie, what happens if, say, I need to migrate all my music onto another HDD at some stage, perhaps due to impending failure of the existing HDD or perhaps I need to revert to a backup at some stage.

Will all my music be seen as “new” again and ill lose all the Roon edits with respect to the original copies of the files?

Ie will i need to start again from scratch?!

Cheers!

No, you won’t. Firstly make sure you keep backups of Roon’s database and secondly, when the time comes, refer to the knowledge base which addresses the topic at length. In short, done right, Roon will scan the new location, match the files to the database and that’s the end it.

Hi Evan, would you be so kind as to provide me with a link as to where to find the info on the Knowledge Base? Ive been trawling through it and can’t seem to find it.

I did some tests with backups and so far Roon is seeing the backups as new versions, unfortunately.

Cheers!

For most users moving their database to a new HDD generally entails reinstalling the OS and Roon on another machine. If this is the case then FAQ: How do I move my Roon library to a new computer? provides the necessary guidance.

If you’re switching OS’ in the process also see Migration.

thanks.

i think this is the closest we will get in the knowledge base to what i need…
