Is it possible to play mp4 apple protected files from Roon?

Not if they’re Apple DRMed (with “FairPlay”)… which Apple stopped doing in 2009.

These are music files downloaded with an apple music subscription and appear in the apple music folder and are post 2009

I don’t have Apple Music, but I have a couple of hundred albums I bought on iTunes over the years (AAC, with mp4 file format) that play just fine in Roon.

If they are protected files no you can’t play them. If they are they will have an extension of m4p . I take it these are for offline playback like other streaming services offer so can only be played back via the official Apple app or Apple have gone back the the heady days of full lock in on purchases made.
