Multi-Channel Device Setup options no available using Denon AVR-X3800H
Fiber -> ASUS Router -> (WiFi) Denon
I was looking into how to setup the multi-channel configuration on this Denon AVR using the information on the following help document:
Unfortunately, when I went to the Device Setup screen none of the multi-channel options were available to select. You can see this in the screenshot attached.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
To support multichannel, the device must support multichannel on the input. Typically, this means connecting the AVR to the streamer using HDMI (or a multichannel DAC via USB.) Multichannel is unavailable over a Wi-Fi connection.
Ahh that makes sense.
Would probably be a good idea to add that as a NOTE / Warning at the top of the multi-channel doc page.
I’ll be fixing that issue shortly when I get my new Roon NUC to hook up.
Thanks so much for the clarification!
The situation regarding lack of multichannel support of RAAT/Ethernet by the vast majority of roon Ready AVRs is unchanged, unfortunately.
Keep also in mind that native DSD (stereo/multichannel) over HDMI is not supported by any PC like hardware incl. Nucleus of any type.
Since all AVRs implement DSP, this doesn’t seem to be a shortcoming. That is, PCM is needed for DSP.
