Multichannel Playback Lost in Roon (ref#R3RUBX)

Hi. I have a Marantz SR7015 and a NUC 11TNHi7 on wired Ubiquiti network (though Roon seems to be connecting to the Marantz wirelessly for some reason).

Before I had that model NUC, I had one a couples of generations back, and Roon played multichannel audio through it.

Now that I have upgraded to the i7, however, Roon can’t play multichannel. (Before, I played it through the old NUC through HDMI.) I am trying to play multichannel through HDMI1 on Roon, but it down-converts to stereo and doesn’t show multichannel as an option.

And, for some reason, the Marantz doesn’t offer multichannel. Maybe if I could get the wired connection to work, it would.

Would you please let me know how to restore multichannel output?

Thanks.

Hi @Andrew_Stein,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Can you share a picture of your signal path when trying to play multichannel?

Hi. I’m not sure why, but it started showing multichannel output on HDMI 1. (May I disable MQA decoding without causing problems?) Please see below photos. In the first, you can see that it was down-converting to stereo. The last four show multichannel. Thanks for your help.

One minor issue: though Roon shows 5.1 audio playing, I get no sound. I have tried HDMI 1, 2, and 3 of the NUC’s outputs, and the Marantz displays the NUC’s ROCK boot screen, so the Marantz appears properly configured.

I tried disabling CEC on the NUC, to no avail. Some have suggested that multichannel works only on HDMI 0, but Roon does not show HDMI 0 as an option. Roon’s Audio setting shows a plain “NUC,” without “HDMI,” but I can’t select “NUC” as an output. Please see below screens. Thanks.

I should add that multichannel output worked fine on my old NUC, a version seven or eight.

I finally solved the problem by renaming “NUC” “NUC HDMI 0” and plugging the cable into the 2 port. I disabled CEC, too, but I don’t know whether that move helped.

Seems strange that renaming the output apparently solved the problem.
