@nicholaswilliamlittl welcome to the forums, but in order for anyone to help you, folks will need some specifics…

Getting to this support forum was a mission in itself, so I hope someone here can help.

Since updating to macOS Sequoia (15.4.1), Roon has become almost unusable unless I restart my MacBook every single time I want to use it. Here’s what’s happening:

  • Playback is completely unresponsive – both local and streamed music. Pressing play does nothing.
  • Roon fails to discover audio outputs, specifically my iBasso DX340 connected via USB, also Kef LS60 over Chromecast

I’ve tried toggling Local Network Access and restarting, which temporarily fixes the issue for a few hours, but then everything stops responding again.

Everything was working flawlessly before this downgrade—I mean update—to Sequoia. Any ideas? Would really appreciate any suggestions or workarounds.

Anyone?

Every time I want to use Roon on my M2 MacBook Air, I seemingly have to restart the machine.

To clarify:

  • I’ve already granted Full Disk Access to Roon.
  • Roon works fine after a fresh boot.
  • But when I return later to use it again, the app is completely frozen.
  • Clicking “Play” on either local or streamed content does nothing — no playback starts.

The only way to get it working again is to restart the Mac, at which point everything functions normally… until it freezes again.

It’s the weekend and Roon support will get to your case when they are back at work and it reaches the top of their pile.

Hi @nicholaswilliamlittl,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report, and welcome to the community!

It looks like you’ve created a second community account, potentially by mistake - please make sure you only have one active account at a time. With that, in the future, we kindly ask that you submit a proper support ticket by selecting the option that best matches your specific issue type instead of simply selecting “other”, as this form was created to help diagnose issues while gathering information and it will allow the support team to be able to best assist with your specific issue type.

Thank you!

For a next step, we’ll activate diagnostics for your Roon Server to review things further - please bring your Roon Server back online and it’ll auto-generate a report for us.

Afterwards, let’s perform a database refresh to see if that helps your issues:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:

All Roon_old on Windows

Let me know if the above helps, and we’ll be monitoring for your reply. Thank you! :raised_hands:

Hi, and thanks for getting back to me.

I’m not sure how I ended up with two accounts, but I’ll say — getting to this support page was incredibly frustrating. The question flow kept looping me in circles multiple times.

Just to clarify: is the process you outlined above the same for Mac? I’m still facing the same issue — I have to reboot my computer every time I want to use Roon, otherwise it just doesn’t function properly.

I’ve followed all the recommended steps: backed up Roon, renamed the Roon and RoonServer folders, and completed a clean reinstall. Unfortunately, the issue persists. Roon works as expected for a while, but eventually freezes—navigation is still possible, but pressing play (regardless of output device) does nothing. The only fix is a full reboot of my Mac.

Just to note, I’m using Amphetamine to prevent the Mac from sleeping, so this doesn’t appear to be related to sleep/wake behavior.

Hey @nick_little,

Sorry to hear you had trouble with the Typeform! It’s designed to help users reach solutions more quickly, but it sounds like it had the opposite effect for you. I’ll definitely share this feedback with the team.

Ah - good catch! I made a mistake in my prior response and shared the incorrect steps for refreshing your database. The steps are similar yes, but vary just a bit with it on macOS.

Nice work managing the refresh without having the proper steps - I’m sorry to hear it didn’t help, though.

We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Mac, and saw some potential errors in relation to the use of multiple monitors (which shouldn’t be an issue,) are you by chance using more than one monitor in your setup?

If you temporarily set up a single monitor, do you run into the same issues?

We also saw some odd behavior in relation to the [DX340] zone - how is this device connected to your server/router? If you temporarily play audio to a different device, do you experience the same issues?

In the meantime, we’ll bring your case to our development team for further investigation. We appreciate your patience in the meantime, Nick! :raised_hands:

Edit: Can you also confirm Roon / Roon Server is listed under Mac Settings > Privacy and Security > Files and Folders as well?

Hi @nick_little,

Since some time has passed, we wanted to check in and see if you were able to run through the thoughts listed above?

We’ll be monitoring for your reply! :+1:

Thank you!

I connect my m2 macbook to a single apple studio display. I don’t use two monitors. But I do use an application called Amphetamine to keep the macbook awake.

The iBasso DX340 is a digital audio player that I also use as my desktop amp/dac. It is connected to the macbook via USB (I do not use a dock)

The issue is, that when Roon freezes, I cannot play to any output device.

Yes, Roon is listed as "full disk access: under Mac Settings > Privacy and Security > Files and Folders

Anything? This is killing the Roon experience for me.

Still looking for some assistance here. I can confirm zero issues with the native Qobuz application, it recognizes and plays on all devices all the time, even after awaking the macbook from sleep. So this is 100% a Roon problem. I guess I’ll give it another day or so and then cancel Roon and post my experience and lack of support elsewhere.

Not sure if your post here was made as a reply to Benjamin’s post or generally to the thread. Unfortunately, the forum software does not make this visible. But if it was a reply to the thread, he may not have been notified. Tagging @benjamin. Or @vadim ?

Thanks @Suedkiez I appreciate it, but I have given up and can cancelled Roon, this is by far the worst ‘customer support’ in audio.
