Describe the issue
I have two computers. The main computer is at my study connecting to wan and the second one is at my living room connecting to a main network of my study Lan with a Wi-Fi-mesh. Both computers have the same music files under iTunes folders respectively. At the beginning I installed roon to the second computer. Everything was working including roon ARC at home however when I went outside roon ARC could not work. I tried and set up port forwarding to both roon of pc and roon ARC of mobile using port 55000. ARC did not work at all at outside. So I set up roon to the main computer at mu study connecting roon remote from the second computer. Now nothing could work. I could not even play a music and nothing come out from roon but everything is fine with apple music and qobuz and amazon music. I uninstalled roon from both computers and reinstalled it to the main computer. Now I can not play any music at all. Errors say so many errors it can not replay. Two week trial is almost over without any successes. Is it possible to extend free trial time. I am still interesting to roon. I would like to try out.
Describe your network setup
windows 11 directly connected to a router of SGP200w.
Thanks for taking the time to write in and welcome to the community! We’re happy to have you here, but we apologize in that it’s an issue that prompted your recent post.
Roon does not natively support a full WAN setup for remote streaming of your local library. You’ll need to configure Roon and Roon Server on your computer that’s connected via your LAN.
Roon is designed to work primarily over a LAN (Local Area Network) setup, meaning it functions best when all devices—your Roon Core, endpoints, and controllers—are connected within the same local network. This ensures low-latency, high-bandwidth communication for smooth playback and library management.
For your computer in your Study - if you ensure that both Roon and Roon Server are powered off and not active, you should be fine.
For your second computer using LAN, see if the below steps help get your initial Roon setup back up and running:
Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
Note that Roon will not function across multiple subnets either - you’ll need to ensure that all your Roon devices are functioning within the same local subnet.
We’ll tackle Arc-related issues after we’ve confirmed proper functionality within your local network.
We’ll be on standby for your reply and results, thank you!
Hello Benjamin,
Thank you for your advice. I uninstalled Roon and Roon server from the second pc and reinstalled them and everything worked again except roon ARC when I went outside. I had set up at 55000 for port forwarding. I did not uninstalled roon and roon server from the first computer yet. Both computers are connected to LAN. The two computers are connected by Wifi-mesh of two tp-link BE85s. the first computer has a router (SGP200W) connected to internet. So, the second pc with roon and roon server working is connected internet through the first pc. Is it possible to play 3 different music at same time on the first pc at my study and on the second pc at my living room and on a mobile phone outside with the single roon server working on my second pc.
Could you help me set up for roon ARC on my phone and tablet. Roon remote for the first pc.
Thank you for your attention.
I assume ARC has a message indicating that it can’t see your server outside of your WiFI network, or something similar. The first step I recommend is to change the port assignment to something other than 55000, like 56000, in case your router has restricted port ranges or another software program uses the same range.
Did you rely on automatic configuration via UPnP to set up port forwarding, or did you create a manual port forwarding rule in your router settings?
If the phone is using Roon and on your local network, then you can certainly play to three separate Zones using one RoonServer, or possibly group Zones together if they share a protocol. You can learn more here:
However, Zones cannot be controlled across the two apps, Roon and ARC. If you intend to have the phone connected via cellular data, you will need to rely on ARC on your phone; it will not be synchronized with Zone playback in Roon.
Please share a screenshot of the Settings → ARC page within Roon where the diagnostic snippet related to port forwarding will be displayed.
I have changed the port to 56000 from 55000 manually using deco app. I think the messages are the same as port 55000. ARC is working fine at home but when outside it is not working with the error of “port forwarding issues. Check your setting of the roon server” .
Thank you.
Many of our users find Tailscale to be a much easier alternative to port forwarding. If you’d like to give it a try, you can follow the steps in this article.
If you’d prefer to continue troubleshooting port forwarding, that’s completely fine too. In the screenshot you shared, we see the message MultipleNATFound, which usually means there are two routers in your network. Placing one in bridge mode should resolve this error.
