Description of Issue
Music sounds quite often totally broken or even stops playing. Or can’t make it to start playing.
But sometimes I can play for days or weeks without a problem.
Sometimes I think the problems comes from the internetconnection or from the Wi-Fi - I tried to connect the devialet amplifier direct to the core via Ethernet, but I couldn’t get it working together.
I run Roon since 6 month and the problems are there since the beginning. I can’t fix it.
After restarting the core Mac Mini and a restart of the Devialets the system this time is working properly again.
But this is for sure not a solution on the long run.
Best wood be to find a solution.
Second best to connect the room core via Ethernet to the devialet (I couldn’t make that working in the past - that’s why it runs on „air devialet“).
Welcome to the forum and apologies for the delayed response here, are you still having issue? I’ve activated diagnostics mode for your Roon Core and I am not seeing much in terms of errors in the logging.
Is the issue limited to the Devialet? If you play to your System Output zone (Mac internal speakers) or another zone, does that also have issue, or only when playing to the devialet?
Are you able to connect it via Etherent to see if the behavior is the same? A temporary test would be a long Ethernet cable, or you can try to use a Mesh network with an Ethernet output or a MoCA adapter.
thanks for your answer.
The issue is not limited to the Devialet, but all the tother speakers are on Wifi as well. I still have dropouts. Last time only a restart of the mac mini helped.
I have a long crossover ethernet cable, but couldn’t make it work that the Devialet plays music with it… Do I need a normal one ? or any tips ? (between Router and Devialet is a PowerLine LAN) …
Thanks. Tillmann
(just another Roon user who has experimented with different connection methods) Roon core > Roon endpoint connections are very sensitive to bursty packet loss/retransmit, which, in my experience, both WiFi and powerline are subject to. Bursty packet loss/retransmit is not much of an issue for other types of connections, which either buffer a lot of data (eg. Web) or allow degraded signal (eg. streaming video), but Roon RAAT has fairly strict timing constraints, so if a loss burst is long enough, you have an interruption. Powerline packet losses seem to come from interference from major loads turning on and off like refrigerators and AC. WiFi losses are the result from either other uses of your WiFi LAN saturating the system (I’ve seen that happen with video calls), or conflict with neighboring WiFi networks. For instance, I have a couple of portable Roon Ready endpoints (Hugo 2+2go, A&K SP1000M) that kept getting interruptions until I rebuilt my WiFi LAN with the latest pro gear with careful access point placement.
I wanted to check in on your case, have you had any further issues since your post? I re-checked your account diagnostics and I am not seeing any dropouts or playback failures. If you are still having issues, please let me know the exact local time + date + track of the next issue and we can continue troubleshooting, thanks!
