Hi @Dale_Hymes ,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your issue! We’d be happy to take a closer look, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

Hi, I’ve uploaded all the logs. The last time I experienced the problem was in the .02.txt. It only pauses after 15-20 minutes of the first track but plays fine after restarting for hours.

Hi, it happened again. I was running a “tail -f RoonServer_log.txt” at the time and captured the moment it happened. Even though I know you don’t like clips, here it is. I’ll also upload the full set if you’d like.

Hi @Dale_Hymes,

Thanks for the follow-up!

12/13 02:17:16 Trace: [zone Element X2] Pause

That line is decisive. It means Roon told the zone to pause. This is not the Matrix X2 stopping on its own, and it’s not a buffer, network, or decoding failure.

Do you experience this issue no matter the Roon Remote device you play audio from?

Does this happen no matter the endpoint you play audio to? For example, if you play audio only from the system output of your mobile device, do you see the same issue?

Thank you!

I did not have the same issue when playing to my MacBook Pro through its speakers. I did see the same thing when playing to my Arcam ST60 streamer/DAC in a different room (not a zone, just a separate play). Honestly, it’s been a while there so I’ll try it again to see if it still happens and capture those logs. It’s just been consistent with the Element. While I do not think Roon is the issue, I’m just hoping that you might have some experience with this kind of problem. The Matrix Audio help on things like this is not as solid as Roon. BTW, I recently upgraded the RAM in the NAS/server to 16GB and moved the RoonServer to an internal SSD. Thank you for your help!

Got it, thanks for the additional information and tests @Dale_Hymes - There are only a small number of mechanisms in Roon that will issue an unsolicited Pause.

External control signal - Examples:

  • Endpoint sends a transport command back to Roon
  • Another control surface briefly connects and issues a pause
  • HDMI-CEC / AirPlay / device control logic on streamers
Let’s test a few settings on the Element:

Check Roon → Settings → Audio → Element X2

Specifically:

  • Disable Volume Control (set to Fixed if possible)
  • Disable Exclusive Mode toggle off then on
  • Turn Resync Delay to something non-zero (e.g. 100–250 ms)
This can stabilize first-track behavior.

Also, if possible - update Element X2 firmware. :+1:
