Description Of Issue

Audio randomly stops playing. Audio skips periodically - mostly at the start of tracks. If you engage play music resumes. Can play multiple tracks without issue. Can play virtually a complete album and then stop. There appears to be no pattern. Today I was playing album added to library from Tidal. (Beck / Sea Change / MQA). Before trying Roon I was streaming Tidal to MC200 via Wifi (for several years). I never had an issue - it was solid. Always worked. My experience so far is that Roon is great but still not solid.

Hello @Gordon_Taylor and thanks for the information! You mentioned this issue happening seemingly at random, but you had also mentioned playing tracks from TIDAL. Do you see this same behavior from local content? Does it occur if you play to the system output of the MacBook?

Hi Nuwriy. I do not play on MacBook so cannot offer feedback on this option. I may have found a way to improve the performance. I removed all other sources from the switch moving them directly to Router. I only have Roon Core server and MC200 on switch. So far no issue.

I’m not a tech person. I don’t have time. Under normal circumstances I would not have the time or the patience for this and I would have abandoned Roon - but I need something to distract me at the moment. I’m what you would call the “luxury audio buyer”. I purchase good equipment because I can and I appreciate good sound. It must look good and above all else it must be easy.

My opinion for what its worth:
Products must be easy to use. Plug and play. My impression of Roon is that it is a product that would only appeal to persons that enjoy playing with their systems. Network savvy Hobbyists. It’s too complicated for most.

The MC200 setup, while it worked with Tidal, was brilliant. It sounded great and it always worked. The only issue with it was that they failed to make the setup possible with a Mac. And it stopped working with Tidal.

Roon is only a bridge solution until I purchase an integrated Music streamer/DAC and use whatever software the product comes with. As I primarily listen to Tidal I require a simple solid solution. Solid performance trumps features. I’m obviously not your target user.

Hello @Gordon_Taylor and thank you for the feedback here. I’m glad you were able to improve performance with this solution, and we’re happy to help if you run across questions or issues in the future while using Roon.

At Roon we strive to provide a first class experience both in terms of ease of use and performance. Because Roon can be a bit more demanding on the network than some other apps it is possible for issues like this to arise if a component of the network isn’t properly configured, but we do our best to work in as many environments as possible and in most cases things should work without too much configuration. We hope that things continue to work well for you now and that you have a fantastic Roon experience.

If there are any other questions, comments, or concerns I can assist with, please let me know!
