MusicD Shortcuts - “Hey Siri, Roon random jazz”

For those days when you are busy. Maybe too busy to pick-up your Roon Remote or sit at your desktop. Too busy to decide what to play.

Your voice becomes the remote.

“Hey Siri, Roon random classical”

A quick note about iOS shortcuts. You cannot name it with ‘play’ at the start as it will recognise this as a command to play music on a streaming app.

Once up and running, you can create the webhooks in two ways;

  1. via Roon settings > Extensions > MusicD Shortcuts > Settings

Or

  1. visit the MusicD Shortcuts webUI <your.ip.address>:3000

Enjoy

Still working on this but it is working.

Tests being carried out for Android.

An update is available already

v1.0.1 - which allows future updates to be via the extension settings in Roon

A few extra options are available for the webhooks.

• Play 5 random albums of any genre
• Play 10 random albums of any genre

You can also select the number of albums per genre and also select multiple genres.

Still working on Android. There is a free app that creates desktop shortcuts (Chrome does the same but you end up with multiple webpages open). I need to explore Google Assistant and Google Home automation for voice control.

Enjoy

Siri sometimes is not the best. I’m currently on iOS 27 beta and, well it’s terrible.

To ensure greater accuracy with the shortcuts you can add the shortcut as a voice shortcut.

This YouTube video gives a quick guide on where and how. When selecting the action, scroll to Shortcuts and any webhook shortcuts will appear there.

Presumably you’ll be producing a British Sign Language version next :joy:
