I’m not sure why, but the search algorithm in Roon never seems to return what I’m actually looking for. I was trying to find ‘Da Da Da’, by Trio in my library this week. No matter what I did, neither the track or the artist appeared in any useful way in Roon search results.
Searching “Trio” (with or without quotes) returns literally every jazz combo or three-instrument classical group ever. The German band in question is 59th (!) in the search results.
Searching “Da Da Da” isn’t much better, with the actual song showing up 20th, behind titles such as these:
If you try either of these searches on either Qobuz or Spotify, the expected results show up either at, or very near the top. While these specific searches may be somewhat of an outlier, I’ve found many other similar problems previously. Roon search is so exacting and literal–God help you if you shorten a title, misspell a name, or omit an article, or bit of punctuation.
All of the other services seem much more forgiving, and better at interpreting what you’re really trying to search. I mean, who is going to only enter the word “Trio” for an artist search when they’re actually trying to find the Esbjörn Svensson Trio (a top five Roon search result)?
Mostly venting, I guess, but this seems to be an area that other services are much better at. Any hope for improvement?
Searching for just Da Da Da brings up the correct composition as first result for me, followed by several recordings. It may have do with library content because I have both the original and the Elastica cover in the library.
Edit: And yes, this does not help if you want to find it because it is not yet in the library.
But, I believe that illustrates part of the OP’s frustration.
I’ve also found at times if you don’t type in exactly what Roon expects, and who knows what that is, it can be frustrating finding what one is looking for. Sometimes Roon seems somewhat flexible with what one types in search, and other times absolutely rigid. Also, there are times when search results are just absolutely baffling.
Exactly, but that’s my point. Why does Roon require the entire title (an unlikely search term, at best), when other services have no problem with the shortened version?
Even stranger. The track in my library is on a compilation disc, and is titled, ‘Da da da ich lieb dich nicht du liebst mich nicht aha aha aha’, yet it still gets buried in the search results unless I use the full title.
