I admit that’s a good suggestion. I thought we were discussing internal drives. In fact I own several of those drives and one contains about 4 terabytes of albums. It was a gift and I loaded up my internal drive of my first nucleus with it.
It’s been so long since I used the passport usb drive to load up my internal storage, I can’t remember how I did it. I have recently ripped my library of new files to a new Passport. If I plug this into my Nucleus one, will the files be tranferred or will they just be accessable in Roon. There will be a lot of redundancy, but I guess that Roon will sort it out in “versions”. Could you please fill me in on how this will work? Thanks in advance. By the way the owners manual for the Nucleus one is pretty sketchy about this.
When you plug in the USB drive, you can then add it, or more specifically a folder or folders on it, as a watch storage location. Roon will then read the drive and add them to your library. The files will remain on your drive.
The only way to move files to the internal drive is to plug that usb drive into a different computer and then use that computer to move the files over the network by opening two windows, one of the USB drive and the other of the Nucleus’ internal music storage drive and then drag and drop between the two.
Personally, I would just keep the music on the drive, which I do and have done for 7 years, and not bothered with any internal nucleus drive; too much of a hassle.

Thanks. That’s very helpful. If I add the usb drive as a watch location, will Roon recognize files that are already in my library? I’m trying to avoid too much redundancy. With Tidal, I already have a lot of that. I apologize in advance for my confusion.
It will treat all the files on the drive as new and add them to your library as new. Roon will group the different releases under versions, if it finds a match, but all versions will be in the library.
OK, I think I understand how it works. So, I can designate a folder in the usb drive as a watched folder and Roon will add files to my library from there. It’s a matter of moving files to that folder. -Thanks again
