My Roon has been stuck for 2 hours now after I edited 6 albums in iTunes

My Roon has been stuck for 2 hours now. Large library (150k tracks). I edited 6 albums in iTunes which moved files around which triggers Roon to re-catalog some items. Wating over 2 hours for Roon to do its thing to the library is still a problem. When will this performance issue on large libraries be fixed?

Hey @John_Kustak1,

I have split out your post to it’s own topic, to receive appropriate help, it would be really helpful if you could complete the template provided below.

You can copy and paste it in your reply.

Please be sure to include details of your core, network, storage location of your media files, and any messages displayed by Roon.

Thank you.

Roon Core Machine

Include your operating system and machine info (Model, CPU, RAM).

Networking Gear & Setup Details

Your networking gear (model of routers/switches/etc), connection types (Wifi/Ethernet), and any firewalls, antivirus, or VPN software.

Connected Audio Devices

Specify what devices you’re using and their connection types, like USB/HDMI/Chromecast, etc.

Number of Tracks in Library

Tell us how large your music library is, eg. “30,000 tracks”.

Description of Issue

Tell us about the problem you’re having in as much detail as possible. Screenshots are always appreciated!

If you edited while Roon was watching the respective folders, Roon confusion may have been avoided by either shutting it down before or disabling the watched folders.

Good advice but how can Roon get confused for 2 hours as a result of just adding to a watched folder? A reboot normally fixes these issue but it should not still (after all these years) be happening. The ‘large library’ aspect may be a red herring?

I don’t know the inner workings either, but …
It is also known that ripping disks to an actively watched folder often causes problems.

It’s not that I’m saying it’s okay for these things to happen, I’m just recommending possible best practices…

Does ROCK do this when ripping CDs and if so it presumably doesn’t cause this issue?

I’m not using ROCK/Nucleus, and I don’t know its inner workings either.

Let’s keep to the thread’s topic…

Hello - I was on vacation and am just getting back to this. Here is the setup.

Roon Core Machine
iMac M1 - 16GB - Ventura 13.4.1
Roon Version 2.0 (build 1277)

Networking Gear & Setup Details
Fiber into house 1gb up/down
iMac M1 - ethernet cable to modem. Wireless to house.
Oppo UDP-205 is also hardwire to network.

Connected Audio Devices
Oppo UDP-205 - hard wire to network

Number of Tracks in Library
157173 Tracks
12249 Albums
3938 Artists

Issue continues yesterday and today. When editing or adding a single album in the scanned directories, it takes hours for Roon to be available. Roon will finish playing a track and I think completes the queue. But adding or starting a new track is not possible until the rotating circle is gone.

Note on memory usage. I noticed today in the Activity Monitor Roon was consuming over 15gb of memory. I closed the program and restarted. It starts around 3+gb and is playing an album and is at 5.1gb of Memory Used.
