Hey, @Giuseppe_C.
Thanks for sharing the Samsung TV details and your network setup. Can you share a Screenshot of what you see under Roon Settings → Displays? Are you able to select it as an Audio Output zone, and does it work as expected that way?
Hello @Giuseppe_C
Thank you for clarifying.
Roon’s Display and Roon’s audio zones travel over two different paths, which is why the TV appears under one and not the other.
AirPlay 2 carries audio and nothing else. There is no channel in it for Roon to send a screen down, so a TV connected that way can be an audio zone and will never appear under Displays. That part is a limitation of AirPlay itself, not of your TV.
Displays work over Google Cast, and here the important distinction is that the Roon display is an application that runs on the device, not a picture being mirrored to it. When Roon finds a Cast device, it asks that device whether it is able to run Roon’s display app, and lists it only if the device says yes. Supporting the Cast protocol and carrying the app are two separate things, and a TV can have the first without the second. Your TV is not reporting that it has the app, which is why it is not listed.
What you can do today. The display is a web page, and your TV has a browser. On the TV, open the browser and go to:
http://<your-roon-server-ip>:9330/display/2/
Replace <your-roon-server-ip> with the address of the machine running Roon Server. That gives you the now playing screen on the TV without any additional hardware. It is not as tidy as a proper Display device, since you are driving it from the TV’s browser rather than from inside Roon, but it works and it costs nothing.
If you want it done properly, there are two routes:
We do not have anything to share about Samsung TVs beyond that today.
Thanks for the explanation and tips, really appreciate it
Hi @Giuseppe_C
Thanks for the update, and it’s good to hear the explanation helped.
Please let us know if there are any software updates available for the TV, and whether they change Chromecast availability.
