Describe the issue

Hi,

I wrote to you guys in November, only to finally realized that my email answers were not going through. My bad!

Roon keeps freezing the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II often when I use it with an iPad / iPhone. Seems to be less an issue when Roon is used on my Macbook. The app itself don’t freeze, but I need to restart the Mytek even if other fonctions of the Mytek (phono, bluetooth, etc) works. It’s like if the server crashes or Tidal does.

I’m currently using the Roon Core build in the Mytek with Wi-Fi but I tried connecting a Google Mesh network and one of the pod to the Mytek via Ethernet. Don’t change anything…it was only working well when I used power line and connected the server directly via ethernet. The problem is the power line creates interference with my turntable, making it unusable.

Is there anyway I can verify if something is corrupted or not working well?

Thank you,

Nicolas

Describe your network setup

wifi, videotron (canada) as ISP, google mesh. Powerline extenders worked very well but created interference with my turntable.

Hi @nhamel2,

Thank you for your patience. We’ve pulled diagnostic logging from the relevant RoonSever instance. Here’s what we can suggest.

First off, the network is at times failing to download and distribute large audio files simultaneously. We can see the prebuffer from Tidal shortreading after the download times out and has to re-request information from Tidal’s servers. This would be an example of network interference, either in the Google Mesh WiFi signal or in the powerline connection.

The most expedient test would be to hardwire the Mytek to the main router, and then use the WiFi signal from that same router to connect the iPad or iPhone. Play content to the system output of the remote, beginning at 44.1KHz and moving upward in sample rate until you’re playing high-resolution files. Do you experience dropouts or warnings in the UI?

Make sure that multicast forwarding and IGMP snooping are enabled in the mesh network.

In other instances, we see Tidal’s servers returning unauthorized for playstream requests. This is possibly a consequence of their MQA overhaul in the last year - make sure that you re-add any high-resolution Tidal content to your library if it fails to play. Also, check your account tier and sign in/out of Tidal in Roon Settings → Services. Restart RoonServer and log back in.

Finally, we can see the Mytek connecting to two separate network interfaces. When it switches between these connections, it loses sight of Zones and controllers. Please try limiting the device to a single network connection, ideally an ethernet connection.

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

Hi Connor,

Sorry for the late reply and thank you very much for this detailed diagnostic.

I removed all my Google mesh network pods since it was clearly causing interference. Now my Mytek / Roon Core is only on the network via Wi-Fi since I don’t have another way to deal with ethernet cables. I tried power lines and it worked very well and never made Roon crashed but it created interference in my phono input of the Mytek.

Would you be able to rescan my network and log and see if hardwiring the Roon core to the router is the only solution?

I also acquire a Mac mini, where I could install the Roon core if the wifi of the Mac mini 4 is more stable than Mytek Brooklyn Bridge 2. I could also maybe try to use power line between a core on the mini and my router, leaving the bridge’s phono pre-amp alone…

Thank you!

Hi @nhamel2,

How has the performance been on Wi-Fi? If it has been working without issues then you should keep using it that way. Hardwiring is the most stable way to connect to your network but not necessarily the only way. It’s just what is most likely to work.

@connor’s point here is the important one to pay attention to. What he’s saying is that because you have two network interfaces it is interfering with Roon’s ability to see these remotes. So the troubleshooting step is to only have one active. We strongly recommend that that connection be ethernet because of it’s stability as I mentioned above but if you are seeing success using Wi-Fi then there is no reason not to use it.

It’s been kinda slow and unstable unfortunately.

The two connections you’re mentioning is Ethernet and Wifi? or there’s two wifi? because I don’t see two wifi.

Thanks!

Hey @nhamel2,

We’re referring to a direct ethernet connection, instead of using wifi. If you still run into issues afterwards, please share the specific track name when you experience a freeze, and we’ll take a fresh look at a Roon Server diagnostic.

Thank you! :raised_hands:
