Nagra compact player Roon ready?

I am a new Nagra compact player user. Firmware has updated the latest one. I found my Roon sever indicated that the compact player is uncertifed by Roon. What’s wrong?

It’s not (yet?) certified according to the only canonical list:

It wouldn’t be the first time that a manufacturer announces Roon Ready before it’s done. You should ask Nagra, Roon Labs won’t comment on the certification status.

Thanks your reply.

I have the same problem. Nagra always gets the same standard answer from Roon that the completion of the certification will take another 2 weeks. Roon has had all the necessary information for 3 months. Roon gives no information and refers to Nagra. Great business conduct from Roon…

Do you seriously think that the information you got from Nagra describes the situation in an objective way? My experience with Nagra (the company) has led me to sell off all my Nagra branded equipment and never look that way again.

The only answer to threads like these are: “Never buy equipment based on promises of future functionality.”

Yeah. I don’t know about Nagra here, and Roon may have been slow with certification before, but it also wouldn’t be the first time that a manufacturer blamed Roon although eventually it was their own fault for not implementing required changes. And that’s why Roon is right to not get into a public mud slinging contest by commenting on certification progress.

Best advice:

I don’t have this information from Nagra.

What’s the source then?

IMHO, manufacturers shouldn’t be allowed to advertise Roon Ready until it is actually implemented (doesn’t Roon have any control over their trademarks?). While some manufacturers actually implement Roon Ready in a reasonable timeframe, others take months, years, or never (and still advertise Roon Ready/coming “soon”).

As was mentioned in a previous post, it’s good practice to never buy a product based on “promised” coming features.

It’s probably not easy to threaten lawsuits to partners you want to keep.

Thanks.

I suspected it might have something to do with not wanting to upset manufacturers. Unfortunately, this means the consumer may lose in the end, potentially damaging the reputation of the manufacturer and Roon (personally, I lay the blame on manufacturers).

I suppose it’s a complex topic with no simple fixes.

Manufacturers who still have printed manuals will have a print deadline and probably want to put it in there.

Certification will require software fixes and in the worst case even hardware adjustments if unlucky. Manufacturers might honestly believe it’s right around the corner and then it isn’t.

Roon may sometimes have delays (I don’t know but possible). In any case it’s understandable that they can’t comment on progress with a certain model.

Manufacturers may sometimes be stubborn (not unknown with software developers  ). When a customer asks their support, the support people (or whatever other supposed sources) may not be privy to all details and might say „waiting on Roon“ if that’s not the whole problem in reality.

It’s IMHO best to never jump to conclusions, and not to buy based on future promises as has been said.

They aren’t supposed to, but, well, the marketing guys know different.

Can you check it again? The Compact Player is now showing as Roon Ready…

it seems Roon Ready now, I need check later, thanks your info.

it has been Roon ready for some time. My challenge is that even when connected via N-link to a Nagra DAC, Roon “thinks” it’s PCM-only and does not play DSD natively (in the audio settings in Roon for the Nagra streamer there is no configuration for “DSD Playback Strategy” to force it to treat DSD Natively). I had managed to have it working with DSD but not anymore (and the firmware is updated)
