Naim Mu-so 1st generation issue

Roon Nucleus with latest firmware updated few hours ago

Hello,

It’s a couple of weeks that I can’t play my music on Roon through my 1st gen Naim Mu-so.

First of all I have to point out that for years I’ve been using it without any issues.

Basically Roon sees the player and the Airplay IP address so I can enable or disable the Mu-so.

If it’s enabled and recognised by Roon it will try to play the music but eventually it’ll go in stop mode and the Mu-so is not turning on at all.

I have tried many things and I’ve reset the Mu-so to factory settings as well.

So after a couple of weeks of troubleshooting I’m here to ask for your help!

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance

Maurizio

Description of Issue

Good morning and I seem to remember that some other users have had the same issue after the Airplay 2 update some months ago

While I am on holiday at the moment
One solution was to go into Settings->Audio and go into the device settings and set it to compatibility mode to Yes (as below)

Another solution is to add it in the Apple Home app, but I cannot remember why

Hello Michael,

I’ve tried that, and unfortunately it’s not helping.

BTW I can listen to music via Airplay using Roon ARC!

Hi Maurizio I’m sorry to hear that didn’t work for you.

Did you add it to your Apple Home app as well? This seemed to fix it for some other users.

I assume that when you are using that speaker through ARC you are using Apple Airplay support and not Roon’s so that actually makes sense that it would work.

It does seem to be related to the adding of Airplay 2 support to Roon.

One other thought, have you checked the firmware on your Mu-so to see if there is an update.

I completely agree with you. I think it’s something related to Roon than to Naim, and yes even if it’s a bit old I’m on the latest Naim firmware. I’m not using the Home App but I’ll give it a go and check if I can sort out the issue. Thank you very much for your time and your help.

You need to do two things:

  1. Set it to compatibility mode as @Michael_Harris wrote.
  2. Add it to the Apple Home app. (So you need an iPhone or similar)

This is a workaround for the time being and Roon is working on a solution.

Hi @Maurizio_Codini,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. Like the other users said try adding the Naim to the Apple home app. Let us know if this works.

WOW! I’m very happy now. Yes it is perfectly playing. Thank you very much for your help. I’ve spent hours trying to make it work and now it’s back to normal. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi @Maurizio_Codini,
Great! I’m glad Roon is working with your Naim now.
