Today I am at 472,198

Description of Issue

My Core Machine Has Been Slowing Down and I noticed my SSD free space has gone way down, I have a 250 GB SSD. My original set up was 85 GB used I am now at 231 GB. I have searched everywhare to find files to delete. I found two large Roon Folders [images_1 (30.2 GB) and Data (88.6 GB). I DO NOT have ANY music files on this SSD. More Detail Below…

Questions:

  1. What is in these folders and do I need all of them?
  2. Are there any other folders that I can purge
  3. What can I do to speed up Roon?

Thanks,
Dave

File & Folder Detail:

C:\Users\Kingdel\AppData\Local\Roon\Cache\brooimages_1\data

256 foldes each one 326 MB to 383 MB

89.8 GB (419,600 Files, 65,693 Folders)

C:\Users\Kingdel\AppData\Local\Roon\Database\Core\6931a719712849c089417240a12a008d\images_1

30.2 GB (151,450 Files, 76,402 Folders)

677 folders each one 36 MB to 50 MB

They are your Roon backups
What are your back up settings?
Looks like maybe it is set to keep all of them from what I see.
Possibly you should delete some of the older ones, that will help with space

You should not be backing up to that drive. Use a USB attached HDD.

And 600k tracks with just 16gb ram?

That’s also likely a stumbling block for slick swift Roon operations.
I would suggest upping that to 32gb as well.

Hi TheHammer & Jim

Thank you for helping me, This is strange as my backups go to my NAS (see attached). It is attached to my Router (not USB). I do not see any other backups in the Roon.

Questions:

  1. Are my Backups setup correctly?
  2. How do I stop the C: drive backups?
  3. Any ideas how/why I have the two folders?
    C:… (Roon\Database\Core… & Roon\Cache…)
  4. Do I need to recreate these 2 folders on my NAS?

I have a New Core Machine (10th Gen i7, 32 GB Ram, 500 GB SSD) I have performance related questions about this - should I add them to this Topic or Start a New One?

Thank You,
Dave

  1. I deleated most of the folders in"brooimages_1\data" and lost a lot of album art? How do I get the art back?

Hello Roon, what do I need to get someone from Roon to help me?

Start a new topic with your new questions please.

ok, thank you, I will do that. Any tips for getting answers to my 5 questions above?

Description of Issue

I deleated some folders as per the recomendation (See Topic - Need Space on Roon Server SSD).
I got some disc space back but lost a LOT of my Images (Album Covers, Booklets, Etc.).

How do I get my images back?

Folders that I deleated off my OLD CORE:

Examples of lost images:

Are these local files or linked from Tidal or Qobuz? Are you configured to use the artwork that you provide or that Roon provides? This can be configured in Settings → Library → Import Settings.

I am only guessing here but it may be that the directory you deleted in your previous post

may have deleted the cover art based on the directory name “brooimages_1\data”.

  1. Most are local some may be Qobuz or Roon (but I need to check each one)

  2. Artwork = Prefer Best (Some Roon, Some Local, Some Qobuz)

  3. I am thinking same as you but I did ask before deleating

  4. I’d love to get answers to all open questions but images are #1

If you select Prefer Roon for artwork and rescan, do any of the missing covers get updated?

Hi @David_Haaf, unfortunately you ended up deleting part of your image cache and that’s why the images aren’t showing. @noris will be able to help you get this straightened out. Please hang tight for a bit.

Thank You Guys. I will hang tight for a bit. I just found this one example. The Album is from Qobuz. The Small image lower left is gray as it was in my playlist. I clicked the small image & the album page pops up with the larger image but sm gray one lower left. when I close the album page the gray image remains. Very Strange…

Just to be clear, @AceRimmer suggested possibly you should delete some of your older backups, not image folders. Backups are deleted from within Roon - Settings - Backups.

Hi @David_Haaf ,

I’ve merged your two threads since they are related, the image issue occurred because your removed the cache folder.

With a library this large, you’d really want to use a dedicated machine, either a Nucleus + or a top-of-the-line ROCK unit, a dedicated PC doing all kinds of tasks can hinder you from running a large collection.

I’m not sure if you can get this artwork back, but I would try to first reboot the machine to see if that helps, or if not then try to a Roon Settings → Setup → Clear image cache → Clear cache and see if that helps.

If you’re still running into issues after trying that process, then you’d want to start fresh with Roon and revert to one of your backups from the NAS. If you do end up still having issues, here’s how you can set up Roon with a fresh database:

  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Move Roon_old to somewhere with a lot of storage space, like your NAS
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Restore from backup
