NUC8i7BEH running ROCK and previously running faultlessly.
Networking Gear & Setup Details
The internet fibre connection is connected to the Fibrehome HG624DA supplied by my provider. My Orbi RB50 and satellites are connected to this device and provide the internal home mesh network. NUC is wire connected directly to ORBI base station as is my PC and the Rpi4 running RopieeeXL. Neither Surfshark nor Microsoft VPN is activated. System was running perfectly.
Connected Audio Devices
Rpi USB to Holo Audio May Dac
Number of Tracks in Library
Small library approx 6k tracks, mainly use Qobuz & Spotify
Description of Issue
My main PC was having repeated issues and randomly rebooting. After extensive attempts to fix the issue, I reloaded the Windows 10pro software from the Microsoft servers. The PC setup has now completely stabilised with no further random reboots for several days. ROON is working but only via my network connected TV/soundbar and various chromecast devices like my HUB Max around the house. The devices that ROON can interact with are all visible on my Network via my Windows PC. However, I’m no longer seeing my Rpi4 and my NUC running ROON on the network via my PC? These 2 devices are on the network and running as I can see them on my ORBI interface and can address them via their IP addresses with no issue. Both the NUC and RPi4 are running the latest versions of ROCK and RopieeeXL. The Windows PC is also running the latest available update of Windows 10 pro. The Orbi is also running the latest software update. A check on my windows trouble shooter says there is a double NAT issue if that helps but I was able to use ROON previously when the RPi and the NUC could be seen on the network prior to my Windows reinstallation. I have zero knowledge of networking and everything just “worked” before so I’m lost. I have rebooted all the various devices multiple times to no effect. I’m in Singapore so there will be a time delay in responding to any queries/directions you may have. Thanks for your kind help.
Since you’ve performed a clean install of the Windows 10 running Roon, please check the firewall (Windows Defender) settings:
Also, check your router settings. I would imagine these are ok as it was working before. But checking doesn’t do any harm…
Router Specific Settings
Some routers have settings that can cause interference with Roon’s communication to endpoints and Remote devices. Below are some of the common configuration changes that have been required for some routers to function properly with Roon.
Netgear Orbi Routers
If you’re making use of an Orbi router, we recommend unchecking Disable IGMP Proxying in your router’s settings. This setting can interfere with the ability for Roon Remotes to connect to the Roon Core.
AFAIK this should not have any impact on local network operation.
I have turned off the firewall and restarted the PC, NUC and Rpi4 but still not visible on the network of the PC. I checked the Windows firewall exceptions and raatserver.exe is already included. The Orbi admin settings show “Disable IGMP Proxying” is already checked/applied. Thank you for having taken the time to provide these possibilities.
The strange thing is now I’m able to play music via the Rpi4->Holo Audio May->my hifi on my phone and also my tablet using ROON. Only my main PC can’t see these devices on the network…
Thank you for reporting back and confirming what you have tried but unfortunately without success at this time.
From this, and your previous post I understand that the issue appears to be centered around your Windows PC. Roon appears to be working well with all other endpoints.
The fact that your Windows computer is not seeing the devices on the network is not necessarily a problem. Except of course, if you want to access the network share of your NUC.
Does the Roon app launch successfully on your Windows PC? Perhaps you can share a screenshot of the Settings > General
If Roon is not launching successfully are you receiving any errors?
Hi Sven,
This is now really weird! I left everything alone waiting to see if there were other ideas shared by members or tech support. I just tried to use the PC to check the network but it is the same…no sign of either the NUC or RPI4 BUT NOW when opening the ROON app, the Holo Audio May dac is available and works with no problem. So the PC doesn’t “see” either of the 2 devices mentioned but plays to them with no issues now. I’m truly baffled but if it ain’t broke (almost) don’t fix it right?! Something you told me to do including the various reboots once again has worked. I don’t know why because I have rebooted so many times before but it’s all good now. So long as it plays, I’m happy. Thank you very much once again and I’ll call this one solved. Cheers mate.
Windows networking has a habit of losing the presence of a ROCK/NUC system on a home network.
You can get Windows to discover it again by typing \\Rock\ into the address field of the Windows File Explorer, then the ROCK’s Data folder will show up again.
