Description of Issue

Roon crashes every single time I start it on this NUC.Within seconds. Cannot finish adding tracks to library before crashing. I have already updated bios. Video drivers are up to date. On my last mini PC install Roon worked fine.

To be clear: since my last install (which worked fine although the Minisforum pc itself was problematic) the only change to my system is the NUC7i3BNB (a previous ROCK machine converted back to Win10.

I am using the same network, same external hard drives, I have uninstalled 64bit Roon and reinstalled 32bit…same problem. Wiped all auxiliary folders before reinstall.

Upon very first initial install I was able to play perhaps 10-15min of music before crash. Since then the crash now happens within seconds. The audio device used was the Signtek Mini USB DAC.

Hi @anon82649884 and welcome to the forum.

So there is the possibility that something is wrong with your files, causing Roon to abort. You can check the Roon logs (scroll to the end) to see which file is the last imported/failing.

Also there might be other reasons why Roon is failing. It could be a possible defective RAM module for example. You can test your RAM following the description in the article linked below:

Disclaimer: Tips from another Roon user, not official support.

Thanks for the reply Black Jack. Memory tested fine. I wiped the databases and loaded a different music folder – same result. If I wipe the dBase, don’t add local files and use Tidal only the Roon core works just fine.

On a possibly related note: my SMB stutters considerably with my VR device and media streaming is not working at all with this NUC.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @anon82649884 — Sorry to hear about the troubles here! Would you please use the directions found here and send us over a set of logs using a shared Dropbox link (or any other file sharing service)? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Dylan. I’m in the process of moving all my tracks artist by artist into a new library folder. Found a couple of bad seeds already…I think this will work. I’ll keep this post updated although I have yet to make it though the ‘A’ 's yet

It’s been a frustrating two days of utter nonsense trying to locate any ‘bad’ files. In the end after sifting through 50000+ tracks and deleting what appeared to be problem tracks for roon —the crashing started all over again. Luckily this happened before I plunked down a lifetime subscription. I think I’ll be going back to JRiver after all. Anyway --here are the LOG FILES you requested.

Hi @anon82649884 — Sorry to hear about your continued troubles here. Unfortunately the logs that you sent didn’t come through properly. It looks like it’s a shortcut to %localappdata% > Roon > Logs, but not the actual files themselves. Can you try to re-upload them and we’ll take a look? Thanks!
