New install on QNAP

Having trouble installing Roon on a new QNAP 453. Have an SSD in slot 1 and have created a RoonServer shared folder on it prior to installing Roon from the AppCenter. When I open Roon and click Configure and get the ‘Select your storage location’ dialog box to input the Database Location, I am unable to enter the folder name (RoonServer). The dialog box won’t accept any input / text. Thanks.

Hi Audio_Concepts,
You will need to take a look at how to set a proper folder path. Even though you are setting this up on the NAS, you probably still have to enter the proper network folder path.

From : https://kb.roonlabs.com/Adding_Folders_Using_Path

Content Stored On a NAS Drive

  • To add network storage, we recommend using your NAS drive’s hostname, such as \\DISKSTATION or smb://MyNASDrive . You can usually find this information by logging into your NAS., and examples are below.
  • You can also use your NAS drive’s IP address, but note that this can change, depending on your network’s settings.

Examples

  • If your Roon Core is running on Windows, the path to your networked folder might look like this:

\\MyNASDrive\Multimedia\Music
or
\\192.168.1.120\Multimedia\Music

  • If your Roon Core is running on Mac or Linux, the path to your networked folder might look like this:

smb://MyNASDrive/Multimedia/Music
or
smb://192.168.1.120/Multimedia/Music

  • After you’ve entered the network path in Roon, enter the credentials required to access your NAS. If a username, password, or workgroup isn’t required to access your NAS, just leave the relevant fields blank and click Add Folder

Hi @Audio_Concepts,
Please try to open the qnap administration in your browser by its IP address.
Then open the Roon Server web app again and try to select your storage location.
There is a small bug, which I have already fixed, but which is not yet pushed to the QNAP App Store.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Scott,
Your instructions are correct if you want to connect to a network share from within Roon.
Audio_comcepts is trying to set the storage location for Roon’s database in the webUI of the Roon Server app on the QNAP NAS, so these instructions don‘t apply here.

After setting the storage location in the QNAP web ui, Music (which is hosted on the same NAS) can be added in Roon’s standard filebrowser as a local folder (because it is the same device ).
