I have the following problem:
I would like to buy a new DAC, specifically the Jadis JS2; I tried it in combination with my Jadis i300 amplifier (15W class A tube) and the result is truly remarkable. The Jadis DAC does not have a volume control and for listening with my speakers this is not a problem because I can control the volume via the amplifier remote control. The problem arises instead when I listen to music via headphones because the excellent amplifier used does not come with a remote control. I thought about adjusting the volume via Roon, but, after configuring the new DAC on Roon and selecting ‘Use device control’ I noticed that the Roon adjustment slider works, but has no effect on the output volume. I thought that this is due to the fact that the Jadis DAC is not in the list of devices that Roon makes available… I ask you if it would be possible to insert it so that Roon configures it correctly.
P.S. The solution with ‘DSP control’ works, but the sound quality decay is quite noticeable.
Being Roon tested makes no difference to how it works. It’s just a stamp to say they tested it. Most DACs volumes are not available over HID unless they make it so. Roon can’t control what it has no access to. You will have to use DSP volume as the DAC would be doing the same anyway unless it has a full analogue preamp section.
You can go ahead and share a ticket over in our Feature Suggestions or get in contact with Jadis directly to request them to embark on the Roon Ready certification process.
Let me know if you have any technical issues outside of this. Thank you!
Thanks for the quick reply. You are right, in fact the Jadis DAC does not have a preamp stage.
I will ask Jadis to start the certification process anyway.
Maybe a ‘stopgap’ solution could be to use the ‘volume levelling’. Also in this case you go through the DSP, but the color of the path quality becomes blue, while if you use the ‘DSP control’ the color changes to green, so I think inferior…
I suggest posting in Audio Gear Talk or Roon Software Discussion for users to suggest workarounds until this unit is certified. This support section is for technical issues with existing products and has topic timers that limit long-term discussions.
As mentioned above, please reach out if you have any issues with Roon otherwise and we’re happy to help.
