Also much more intuitive and, most importantly, the interface has class - unlike Roon which, due to its “pictorial nature”, is closer to the culture of an unsophisticated comic book than an elegant concert hall. On the one hand, an album with art reproductions and on the other, something like an exhibition of the “Google Play” or App Store…
But OK - everyone has their own target…
That company tries to copy and hijack everything. It is just an app for $50/year.
If one needs an app like the above one, get mconnect for $5 one time fee. It is the same.
Its interface is so classy that every time I got it play music from my UPnP server I get this. Have to remove it and add it to be them back then they go again after a while.
Great, so why do you use Roon?
As usual a provocative post stirs the nest…
Yes, JPLAY is a clone of Roon, the greatest form of admiration.
But when having used it a while you realize that JPLAY is a pretty device with not much wits behind the great look.
That said, the browsing experience is WAY better than Roon offers on iPad. The imagery is all up to your library maintenance and if you got your metadata ducks in a row it works just as well as Roon.
And you know, a search actually finds something useful even if the “spellunk” leaves question marks… In less than a blink…
This is false. They cloned the appearance. It is a form of stealing to get some market shares. I understand, there is no admiration involved in this.
Years ago they tried to hijack JRiver and got kicked in the butt. As it should be.
But you only get metadata for streaming not your own files. It’s crap. You get different profiles for your own music, Qobuz and Tidal not one to cover all. Might as well use services own apps.
I’ve been a music lover for all my life and prefer unsophisticated comic books over elegant concert halls, so I’m fine.
I cannot agree - Mconnect is not even close to JPLAY (I know because I have been using both for a long time) and I think that the price is moderate considering its capabilities - but I will not argue with you because it is a matter of taste.
OK - but what can I do about it, the fact that I like it is an individual matter
I use Roon to precisely search and filter classical music - this is where Roon outperforms the competition.
Well, you see, you prefer this and I prefer that, and OK
True. If we all liked the same things it would be a dull world.
I know too. They are the same. Just Mconnect was first. Did JPlay also copy that software?
Paying once 5 or yearly $50 for an identical performance is not a matter of taste, it is a matter of mental sanity.
A good number of us fellow Roonies have explored the many options available to us all. A backup option shall we say.
Some though, like myself are on the fence with Roon due to on going issues, new issues and other things (which I won’t go in to here).
Until seeing there was a latest post in this thread I had forgotten of JPlay. I still haven’t paid to use it and I looked into it last year, or when ever it was. So for some it’s a free app/service.
I’m currently using it now with my Plex server. Playback is to a DietPi box with GMediaRenderer installed.
It’s clunky. Basic but servers a purpose. As a backup option, it’s ok.
Trademark Protection
Trademark protection can apply to elements of a UI that serve to identify and distinguish the source of the software, such as logos, icons, and distinctive design elements that are associated with the brand. For example, the Windows logo or Apple’s apple icon are trademarked because they denote the origin of the product. However, not all UI elements are eligible for trademark protection; it typically applies to those elements that have a clear brand association.
Copyright Protection
Copyright protection can apply to the creative aspects of a UI, such as the original graphics, layout, and design elements. This means that the visual and artistic components of a UI can be protected under copyright law, preventing others from copying these elements directly. However, copyright does not protect functional aspects or the underlying code of the UI.
Patent Protection
In addition to trademark and copyright, certain aspects of a UI can also be protected by design patents. Design patents can protect the ornamental design of a graphical user interface (GUI) when it is displayed on a screen or device. To be patentable, the design must be novel, non-obvious, and ornamental, and it must be associated with a tangible article of manufacture, such as a computer or mobile device display.
In summary, while a software UI can be protected through trademarks, copyrights, and design patents, each type of protection covers different aspects of the UI. Trademarks protect brand-identifying elements, copyrights protect creative and artistic components, and design patents protect the ornamental design of the UI.
I respect your opinion, but you will not convince me. I definitely like the Mconnect interface less than the JPLAYER interface - even though it was the first and even though it is cheaper. And unfortunately I can’t help it.
