New Labtop problems

I have set up a Labtop with Win 10 Prof.
Roon as a Zone Player.
Also installed are Jriver and Foobar.
Roon recognizes my core. I can use all my Net connected players.( Raspberries, NAA etc…) BUT no DAC connected via USB is recognised. No Model.
Jriver or Foobar recognize each and every DAC.
Trying to use a Meridian Explorer2 DAc results in: DeviceInitFailed.
But works with Jriver.

What I am doing wrong here?

If you are connecting DACs to a an endpoint and they are not showing up, the most likely culprit is a firewall blocking Roon’s discovery process.
Try disabling All the Firewalls on the Laptop, Windows, potentially your anti-virus program, and then see if it works. If it does then configure the firewalls to let the Roon Processes (including RAAT) pass thorough. If not, then something other than firewall blockage is going on.

ok, thanks. I try that.
Never thought of that because Jriver is all ok.

Nope.
DeviceInitFailed.
NoFirewall. No VirusScanner.
It has to be a Roon Thing, because all the rest is working
I play music via jriver
works, with or without firewall.
Its a wired connection.

I am quite sure that I do something wrong here, but I cant find what.

Hi @miklats ---- Thank you for the report. I must apologize for any confusion on my part, can you please verify if your laptop is hosting your Roon core? If it is not, please confirm what device is acting as your core machine.

Furthermore, what is the the Meridian Explorer DAC attached to?

-Eric

Was the driver installed for the explorer? There are instructions available on the Meridian website, here is the link.

Russ

yes, the dac is up to date and the driver is installed

Try a USB 2 output and remove any old meridian Explorer drivers.

Hi Eric

No, The Roon Core is not on that Labtop.

My Roon Core is a Win 10 Pro i7 machine.
That PC is on a sepereate place, room.
32gig Ram, core on a fast ssd, its a more or less high end pc.
Its a machine that can run DSD 512 with HQP without troubles, latest CPU.

The Meridian is attached to different Amplifiers I tried.
I use only Studer and Revox refurbished machines.
No troubles here.

I did that.
I tried other DAC’s
Audioquest
Schiit
RME
etc

I am simply stunned. I think its still a small problem
unrecognized

And:
I have a Mac Book Pro on that same network.
No Problems there.

Hi @miklats ------ Thank you for verifying that information for me, it is appreciated. Just to re-confirm, there are no firewalls or antivirus application active anywhere in your setup. This includes the core machine as well.

Furthermore, the amplifiers being mentioned that the DAC is attached to, how are they being accessed across your network? Can you give me some details about what your topology looks like and the devices being used in the chain of communication?

-Eric

no firewalls or virus stuff atm.
also excluded on the core machine.

Amplifieres are accessed via Roon Ready Sonore, Cubox or Raspberry Pie Devices.
I use Netgear Gigabyte Progear Switches.
No Wlan.

I have the Labtop now in my office, close to the Roon Core Machine.
There is one Gigabyte switch between The Core Machine and the Labtop.

The Problems occur only if I plug the USB directly into the Labtop.
I can access the same devices via my network. ( Raspberry, Cubox, etc…) via that new Labtop.
And all DACs are recognised locally using JRiver or Foobar. That is with or without Firewall and/or Virus Software.
That problem is directly related to Roon.

That Labtop has all the latest Win 10 updates installed.

What model is the laptop? You didn’t specify but can Roon see the internal audio device of the laptop?

Its a generic, no name Model. I7 processor, 16 gig ram, SSD.
Win 10 pro. Nothing special on there.

I will follow that up next week, as I am away for the weekend.

I deinstalled and reinstalled Roon, but I get no other results.

As all other Software works properly with the USB connections, and I dont plan to use that Labtop for playing Music with Roon, I leave it there atm. I can do Acourate and Dirac measurements. USB Mic is normally detected. Other Software (Jriver, Foobar) detect 5 different Dacs without Problems. Hunting down that error might be time consuming, something which I dont have available atm.
Thanks for help anyways.
