New Roon Update: I Need Reassurance

This new Roon update which restructures the software has me a little worried. My Roon Core is on Ubuntu Server and many of my remotes are on Windows. And at a second house my Roon Core is on Windows 10.

Has anyone with a Core on Ubuntu Server or Windows 10 experienced any significant issues with the new update?

Just given the false start last time, I don’t want to be on the bleeding edge. Please reassure me :worried:

Hey James, updated my Windows 10 laptop this morning and it was done quickly with no issues at all.

The update notification for my NUC/ROCK showed up after the Windows update and it also completed without any issues.

Previously both come up at the same time. I was happy to see them come in separately.

My NUC/ROCK updated first; after a delay the Windows 10 Remote update became available.

No issues with either one, including Mac Remote.

I updated RoonServer (2018 Intel Mac Mini, running MacOS Catalina) and now I can’t find the core. So… Maybe a bit of care, wait a few days.

ETA: Tried installing Roon, and everything worked, then was notified of another update, which updated the DB and fixed RoonServer – all in the space of an hour or so. So maybe the lesson is that the update notifications are staged, and that everything has to be updated for it all to play nice?

Thanks guys good feedback. I’m going to wait until all my installs flash the update available and then do it.

On my side, I have (or I had, I should say) roon server (no GUI) running on a Mac Mini M1, Running roon client on a Intel iMac, iPad, iPhone, etc…
On the iMac I saw the update notification message, chose to update the core and… Nothing works anymore.
On the Mac Mini I see “RoonServer” installed, with a process running, but the time stamp of the last log file is from before the update. I’ve tried to restart the Mac Mini, but the problem is still the same.

Does anyone know what I should expect after the update, with the restructured software, in terms of app name on the server side?
Any hint about what I can do to have it back again?

Updated my ROCK core and my Windows 11 PC yesterday. It took a while (maybe 5 to 10 min) to update the library but it all went smoothly.

For info, I’ve reinstalled roon on the Mac Mini, selected to use it as server, it started and recognised the database.
Scary, but everything works now!

I am running Roon Server on Ubuntu 22.04, and a Remote under macOS 10.15.7.

Half an hour ago I saw the ‘Update Available’ notice for both the Linux server and the Mac Remote. While the Linux server updated without problem, the updated Mac app hang on first startup with this message on screen:

This was while my server was long since playing music (I have Roon on Android, too). After waiting for several minutes, I opted for closing and uninstalling Roon. A fresh download from Roonlabs installed and ran fine.

I, unfortunately, can’t reassure you. I updated my installation, and have huge issues with Roon Remotes on iOS. I have a support topic raised Issues with Roon Remote 2.0.25

I am seeing all sorts of oddities with Roon Remotes as I described in my post.

As a last resort, I just re-installed my Mac mini, and reinstalled Roon as a new installation not restored from backup. Will wait and see how it goes.

Sorry, can’t be too reassuring regarding Windows 10 servers. Same issues with iPhone 11 (ios 16.6.1) and iPad Air 5Gen (ios 16.6) but with no connection at all. Permanently “Waiting for your Roon Server”. Same with ARC.
Server (ThinkCentre M710q) running Windows 10 is operating and wired connections to server are playing music fine, so I guess my Orbi mesh network is okay (inwards).
I’m part way through gathering info to lodge with Roon, and so far I have found each wifi remote is using a different IP address from the server (but I have never looked before so don’t know if this is a new development), and the server firewall (Windows Defender) has not allowed RoonServer to pass through. (Also never needed to check before, but could be part of the loss of connection with remotes).
Unfortunately I can’t manually allow RoonServer through the firewall as my mini pc is a hand-me-down which sat on a shelf for 2 years and I don’t have Administrator access.

I’m seeing Windows firewall issues quite a lot. The update process does not seem to be allowing or prompting subscribers to open firewall rules during installation.

Well, I will say that my migration to the new software structure appears to have worked - no problems. I am sorry for those that have issues!
