Description of Issue

When playing DSD512 DSF files, it suddenly stops, and no audio device found. I have to turn off my streamer and turn on again, in order to view the audio device back.

Hi @Chan_Eric

I’m just a fellow Roon user

I feel your NAS is below the specs needed to get the best out of Roon. More so with DSD512.

Do you have a computer you could try running Roon Server, and I guess use the NAS as the music storage device?

I’ve played DSD512 before on that level hardware; unless DSP is involved, the processor isn’t the issue…network bandwidth is the biggest consideration. There are a couple of other things that need to be considered:

  1. The first issue is with bandwidth. Nothing in your network chain can be WiFi. Your NAS–>Streamer connection all has to be in solid performing condition, and 100% ethernet. Let’s presume you have that. I can’t find a reference online to the switch you are using however. Can you describe your network in a little more detail?

  2. You will need to look at your DSD Playback Strategy for the zone you are playing to. Since you appear to be playing to a DAC whose max DSD bitrate is DSD512, you must be using native DSD and not DoP, because DoP requires double data rate compared to native, and you would typically max out at DSD256 with a DAC whose top bitrate is DSD512 using this strategy. IOW, to use DoP with DSD512 on a DAC, the DAC would have to support DSD1024. NOTE: Frankly, what I find weird — if this is indeed the device you are referring to — your streamer only supports DSD128 in DoP mode.

As OP has an „APL network streamer“ as well, I thought

But can’t find a switch there. I hope it’s not Advanced Physical Layer - Wikipedia

Right - same result in my research here.
