I wonder why there is no dsp volume with the fiio sr11. I use this to stream to a pair of Genelec 8361a. Not sure what I loose with the hardware volume control offered by fiio.
The SR11 hardware volume control works fine. It’s in the digital domain but likely at 32bit.
I was using as such and found it worked very well. Both using remote or swipe bar in Roon reflected accordingly on the SR11 display. I felt confident I wasn’t going to experience a sudden loudness issue, but the amp I had it going through also had a volume control, but set at halfway to ensure if things well 100% by mistake it wasn’t going to damage my speakers etc.
I would be hesitant using with a true power amp, as when I tested mine with one, the SR11 had to be at 8 - 10 for normal listening. I didn’t hear any ill effects from it, but more likely to damage speakers should things accidentally go to 100%.
