Description of Issue

In my last ticket, I mentioned on December 8, the issues were resolved, and everything worked, which was correct. However, this morning I wanted to change the radio channel on the Naim Muso QB, but I could not connect to it anymore. It turned out no devices were available any more on the network. I have all Airplay devices on the network set to “disabled” as I don’t need them. The Naim is Roon-ready, so there is no need for Airplay connections.

So again, I have an unworkable system. This new stuff is a real pain in the neck. I ended up having two versions running, neither of which worked correctly. V2 is now completely useless, except for Airplay; the Legacy version still refuses to show my Sonos devices. It’s a big mess. Again.

I looked through the log file on the core (respighi) and again found Roon could not bind port 5350. Port 5350 seems to be used for announcements on the NAT protocol (UDP) and is related to Bonjour. When debugging the earlier ticket, I found out that switching off NAT on the router enabled the control points to find and connect to the core. Roon itself then does not work, so apparently, NAT must be switched on at the router side.

Hopefully, @support has some idea of what is happening here.

Description of Issue

As of today, none of my Sonos devices are visible to Roon anymore. Yesterday everything worked fine, but this morning, neither of the Sonos devices shows up anymore. I rebooted the Mac mini and reinstalled the apps on the iPad I use as controllers, to no avail. The devices are no longer visible.

I run the Roon Legacy Core on the Mac mini as I still have issues running Roon 2.0 on the network (see my other issue). It had been running happily for years in a row, but since Roon 2.0 and the need to install the Legacy version, it’s havoc with Roon.

In my other topic, I have mentioned the problems running Roon 2.0 are solved. And guess what? In Roon 2.0, the Sonos devices are visible and thus can be used again in the Roon environment.

With the 1.8 Legacy core, however (latest version), they do not appear anymore.

Hey @Arthur_Venis,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into additional networking issues! Thanks for your patience while we work through each thread as well.

As a test, if you replace the managed switch with an unmanaged switch, do you still run into the above issues? It’s likely that Discovery packets are likely getting blocked to your core somewhere between your router, switch, and SONOS devices.

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply.

I wonder, the switch has been in the network for about 8 years now (since 2015), running 24/7. Nobody, including me, touches it. So, when I have a working system, why would all of a sudden, my managed switch be in the way? My conclusion would be the culprit is somewhere else. Besides, also the Sonos devices were part of the setup before the change to the new Roon version.

I really think the root of the problem is in the software (or subsequent updates). I finally got it to work with version 2, but I just wanted to mention that the Legacy version has issues that it didn’t have before. So, again, the analysis and assumption the switch has decided to start blocking packets are not very likely…

I am currently in my other home across the globe, where I have Sonos and Naim devices as well. I upgraded the NUC with ROCK to version 2.0, and everything works well there too. Also, with Sonos.

Cheers, Arthur
