No Remixes Please

I may be the only one who cares about this, but Roon Devs, please add a way to exclude remixes from radio and shuffle play (Tidal et al). There’s nothing I hate more than listening to a favorite artist and then a junky out-of-place remix comes on. Ruins the listening experience.

It doesn’t seem to matter which artist I’m listening to, a remix will find its way. Whether it’s Cesaria Evora, Stevie Wonder, Grizzly Bear or Foals. I get inundated with remixes. It is the reason why I seldom use the radio feature.

Maybe 1.8 (coming today I think) will change this behavior and I don’t know if what I’m asking for is even possible but if it is please please please…

No change is 1.8 I’m afraid…

I have similar issues with tracks contained in those extended ‘Deluxe’ CD editions which contain an extra CD of previously unreleased demos and live or instrumental versions of the original album tracks. If the Roon Radio choice is even remotely based on popularity and real user choices, these should hardly get a look in, but they do pop up.

Some artists may have some very popular remixes however?

You are NOT alone. I hate remixes too. Especially I am angry because Steven Wilson has remixed many of my favorite albums, perhaps he thinks they need remixing. But I love my albums the way they were introduced, so I’d appreciate to see originals vs remixes distinguished.

Also, if you mark a remix as a “dislike” in radio, you dislike the song itself, which is not the case.

Lastly, I’d LOVE a way to exclude bonus tracks in an album, but that is asking too much. They put a bonus live song in a classic rock album reissue and the album becomes marked as a “live album” by Roon.
I guess I am getting old…

Capitalism. They milk the cow until it’s dead. So we have mixes and remixes and extended deluxe blah blah issues of successful work. It is insane, you see three or four different versions of the same song repeated, some even mono and stereo versions, on bonus discs. It is OK if you are doing an academic research into the work, but for listening it is a PIA.

I love to watch director’s cuts and extended versions of my favorite movies, but they don’t repeat the same scene zillions of times, do they?

I thought of a way that this could happen fairly easily but it still requires a change to the software. A simple filter that excludes any track that has the word “remix” in it. We can already exclude paths so I don’t see it being a significant effort to program the ability to exclude words from tracks or albums. Thoughts?

Also, if this matters to you like it does to me. Please vote for the feature so it can be noticed by the devs…
