Describe the issue

When I try to play certain Tidal albums in Roon, it only looks like they are playing, but there is no sound:
Boz Scaggs – 1972 – My Time
Marvin Gaye – 1965 – How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You

Other albums are fine:
Boz Scaggs – 1965 – Boz
Marvin Gaye – 1964 – Greatest Hits

All albums play correctly, when I open them in my Tidal app.

Everything was fine with no problems the last weekend.

These 4 albums are just a random choice, there surely will be more problems in my collection.

Is this connected to the current DNS resolution issue?

Describe your network setup

Everthing is connected via GB LAN and working fine

With the same albums?

Yes, same albums

Hello @Harald_Von_Harscher ,

Welcome to the forum! Can you please share a few screenshots of the affected albums? I tried to play the albums on my end and they work ok, but perhaps I’m on a different TIDAL regional setting, which region is your TIDAL account set to? You can also try to clear out your TIDAL cache, this may help:

  • Stop Roon Server from running in the Web UI
  • Find and open your RoonServer database
  • Navigate to RoonServer/Cache
  • Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
  • Try restarting Roon Server via the WebUI and verify if the issue still occurs

Here is a screenshot of the album playing with no sound.

Hello Noris,

I can’t find RoonServer/Cache in my folders. Please see the attached pic.

My Tidal Version is 2.181.0.9075.627 based in Germany.

Hello @Harald_Von_Harscher

Thank you for the update.

Based on the diagnostic data, your Signal Path is showing as “Enhanced” because you have both CrossFade (2000ms) and Parametric EQ enabled for this zone. Would you kindly remove this enchantment and try again?

You are looking on your Mac device you need to search the folder directly on the Nucleus device.

Hello Vadim,

I disabled the EQ and set the crossfade between tracks to zero… No effect on my problem

Then I started the WEB UI and stopped the Roon Server

Then I moved all the RoonServer/Cache content to a Temp folder (78.137 Objects 1,5GB).

I restarted the Roon Server

Still could not hear that album

Roon offered an updated server software (2.61 build 1501) which I installed

Still no sound from this album:

Boz Scaggs – 1972 – My Time

BTW, my notebook runs on Linux Mint… :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Harald_Von_Harscher,

Thanks for the update! From a fresh diagnostic report, it appears that everything is functioning properly in terms of Roon sending the audio signal. The log shows the track loading, buffering to 100%, and “playing” for a bit before a manual PlayPause command is issued.

Since everything is fine, the problem is likely one of the following:

  • Sample Rate Incompatibility: The NODE 2i is trying to output 192kHz. Does the same issue happen on lower resolution tracks?
  • Variable vs. Fixed Volume: If the NODE 2i is set to "Variable" volume in the BluOS app, check if the volume there is at 0. Sometimes Roon's volume slider and BluOS's internal slider get out of sync.
  • MQA/High-Res Processing: The NODE 2i does MQA unfolding. If there is a conflict in how the NODE is handling the "Max" quality Tidal FLAC stream at 192kHz, it might be choking at the hardware level.

Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hello Benjamin,

it looks like it all comes down to 192khz/24bit files… but:

I can play and hear all those hi-res files when I open Tidal from within the BluOS app

And please remember that I was able to listen to all files with Roon before and put them in my library
