No sound output from Bluesound Node Icon via USB with Roon (ref#TK8DOS)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· I have just purchased a Bluesound Node Icon and have connected it to my Lyngdorf MP60 via USB. The Icon plays directly to the MP60 with no issues. However, when I try to use Roon I get no sound output. The Icon is recognised by Roon and I can see the signal path. I have ‘played around’ with the Icon settings within Roon but without any success. Previously I had a Bluesound Vault2 connected via Optical and had no problems

Did you try non-MQA material?

I don’t quite understand what role the Node plays in your setup as the Lyngdorf is Roon Ready on its own anyway. As you are feeding one RR device into another, maybe it would be helpful if you post the complete Device Setup settings from Roon for both of them.

Hi Suedkiez, yes I have tried non-MQA material as well. The attached shows that the Icon is recognised in the Signal Path annd identifies the USB input.

Also, as the MP60 does not support MQA, the Node should provide this

Maybe I should add that my Roon Core resides on a Mac Mini - I think the issue might be related to the settings on the Mac Mini?

So, In device setup I have the Icon set as Renderer only and Enable MQA core decoder ‘yes’. These are the settings that Bluesound suggest for the Icon connected by USB. However, I still get no sound through Roon

Bluesound says to reach out to Roon - see below;

USB DAC - ROON

If you are using ROON and MQA with an external DAC, sending digital audio through the USB port of NODE Players* may cause audio dropouts. In ROON, please adjust your NODE settings using the following configurations:

  1. Go to ROON’s Device Setup screen for NODE.

  2. From the MQA capabilities drop-down, select Renderer only.

  3. Expand Show advanced and set the Enable MQA core decoder to Yes.

If you still encounter audio dropouts, use USB DAC implementation natively without ROON and reach out to ROON directly for further assistance.

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report @Stephen_Cartwright!

Do you by chance have any local tracks you’re able to test with? I ask because a fresh diagnostic report is showing your server is getting a 401 Unauthorized response, meaning the Roon server is rejecting your Server’s credentials.

With that, immediately following the signing failure, Roon tries to grab metadata and track info from Tidal, but gets blocked again:

Warn: [mlradio] [9] Failed to get tidal-gb tracks: Result[Status=Unauthorized]
POST to .../tracks/translate? ... status code: 403

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin, I have also connected the Node Icon to my MP60 using Optical. When connected by Optical I don’t seem to have the problem. However, I note that when the Icon is playing in Roon I have another track playing in the background (through Tidal) on my Icon. I have no idea on how to turn this track off

Hi Benjamin, I think I have solved the problem. Seems I had a queue of music playing in the background on my Node through Tidal. I cleared the queue and I think all is good with the USB connection. Will need to play a while longer to confirm. Thanks

Hi Benjamin,

Problem sorted - it was a Bluesound issue (with a queue of music playing in the background through Tidal on my Node). Many thanks for the support.

Regards,

Steve
