Describe the issue
I have a Roon Nucleus one connected by ethernet to a PS Audio Air Lens and then into a PS Audio Stellar Gold DAC via I2S. Streaming service is Quboz. Everything was working fine, but now I have lost output to my speakers. Roon shows music is playing but no output over the speakers. If I run a USB cable from Nucleus One directly to the DAC and bypass the Air Lens streamer, I have a connection and I have sound. No sound via the Airlens. software/firmware is up to date on all devices. Roon shows the Airlens, but when the Air Lens is selected as the output, Roon shows music to be playing but no sound. No zones, only the one main audio system
Describe your network setup
Already provided. Roon Nucleus one into PS Audio Air Lens into PS Audio DAC. router ATT fiber optic
I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
I have a Roon Nucleus One and a Quboz account. The Nucleus One runs via ethernet into a PS Audio Air Lens streamer and then into a PS Audio DAC. I use an ipad to control Roon and there are no zones, only the main audio system. Everything was working fine until this past Friday (5-15). When I turned my audio system on about 6 pm, I had no sound out of my speakers. The Roon app shows music to be playing and the output device to be the Air lens, but no sound. I have sound over the speakers by running a USB cable from the Nucleus One directly to the DAC and bypassing the Air Lens and selecting USB as the output. Selecting the Air Lens as the output results in no sound from the speakers. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Roon. Same result. The Roon app shows the Nucleus One as the Roon server and the Audio settings show the airlens connected to Roon Server. However; no sound when selecting the Airlens as the output device. There may be some setting I’m missing
Thank you for the additional details. Since you’ve already confirmed that USB works directly and your other devices are up to date, we need to look at exactly what is happening to the digital stream before it hits your DAC.
Could you please provide a screenshot of the Signal Path while you are attempting to play music through the AirLens?
You can find this by:
Starting playback to the AirLens (even though you hear no sound).
Clicking the glowing colored icon (the “sparkle” light) in the bottom right corner of the Roon interface.
If Roon thinks it is successfully outputting audio: It will show the format (e.g., FLAC to PCM) and whether the stream is active.
If there is a conversion or incompatibility: Sometimes, if a specific sample rate or DSD format is sent that the AirLens or the subsequent I2S handshake to the DAC doesn’t like, the audio might be “playing” in Roon but being muted by the hardware.
Lossless verification: It will show us if the stream is truly “Lossless” or if there is hidden DSP/upsampling occurring that might be causing a handshake failure with the AirLens.
Once we see the Signal Path, we’ll know if the issue is a software configuration (like a sample rate mismatch) or if we need to look closer at the physical I2S connection between the AirLens and the DAC.
Thanks for the follow-up, and I’m sorry to hear you’re still having issues. We’re unfortunately not seeing your Nucleus currently, and are unable to enable diagnostic mode to take a closer look.
Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
The issue has been resolved. I had no sound through my speakers with Roon. The problem was a new fiber optic cable router. Roon worked with the new router for a while but then dropped out. The new router was not communicating with Roon. I was able to resolve it and have Roon back and functioning normally. Thank you
