Description of Issue

Hi, I have a question. Roon ROCK is installed in my PC (with Ubuntu 22.04 and HQP embedded). I just connected this PC to Spring 3 via USB. It does not work, no sound output. I’m sure this is not my system issue as I can play with Roon + HQplayer + Spring 3 + Hegel H190 without issue. Just doesn’t work if Roon output to spring 3 directly.

Roon detected HDA Intel ALSA after I connected Spring 3, so I assume it’s Spring 3. See following screen shot. Could you let me know what I should do ? Thanks

Hi @Wade_Chang,

Thank you for your post and accept our apologies for the delayed response.

Please share a screenshot of the Signal Path (green/yellow/blue dot above the playbar) when attempting to play to this PC System Output Zone (the Holo Spring 3 via your Ubuntu). Are you using any DSP?

Please also share a screenshot of your Windows audio settings. We’ll want to verify there aren’t any sample rate/bit depth restrictions in place.

Do you encounter this issue with Qobuz/Tidal content as well as your own local library? What about switching between different types of files, at different sample rates, etc?

Also verify that your audio drivers are up to date. We’ll keep a lookout for your response.

A Spring 3 is compatible with ROCK and identifies itself correctly in Roon. But you did say Ubuntu so is it ROCK in a container or Roon server?

Connor, thanks for your input.

I do use HQP 5 without issue. The issue only happened when I tried to use Roon to output to Spring 3 directly. I use both Qobuz/Tidal, no local library. Please note the “Spring 3” in Roon remote screen shot below is typed by myself. I recalled it showed ALSA audio system or something. I modified to “Spring 3” as it showed up after I connected Spring 3 with PC through USB.

I learned from one friend, who believes the ALSA is “occupied” by HQP 5. Unless I free up ALSA from HQP, roon will not be able to pass signal to Spring 3 through ALSA. Is it possible ?

No issue if Roon → HQplayer → USB → Spring 3 → XLR → Hegel H190

No sound if Roon → USB → Spring 3 → XLR → Hegel H190

Henry,
Thanks for your input. As I relied to Connor, Roon didn’t identify Spring 3 correctly in the beginning. I modified the wording. For ROCK, it’s Virtual Machine in Ubuntu.
