Description of Issue
New Windows 11 Install on older DELL 2407WFP with ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 graphics.
Just installed Roon 1.8. No text is visible at all. Only images in Roon window. Ive seen in the support section that this was a problem a year ago or so with older ATI cards but I go the impression that this was fixed. Please help.
It has the latest drivers from Microsoft Update. ATI specifically says that after Windows 8 the drivers for this device are only available via Microsoft update.
I Googled “DELL 2407WFP” but it was listed a monitor so I’m not sure if it’s possible or practical, but would you consider fitting a more recent graphics card into the PC?
The alternative, if you’re had Roon running before or willing to give it a go would be to revert to Windows 10 and the drivers it comes with.
After that I’m all out of ideas, so let me tag Roon’s @support team, to see if they can offer a solution.
Sorry, I entered the monitor model number by mistake instead of the computer model number. Which is a Dell Optiplex 960. Rather annoying issue. I would believe the graphics drivers are the same as that with Windows 10. I’ve just ordered a cheap used video card that is a couple of years newer from eBay. Hopefully that will fix the issue.
One other question you may be able to answer. Are attached USB drives containing ROON music supposed to spin down when not in use or does Roon keep the drive spinning. . . thank you
Thanks for getting in touch and sharing what you’re seeing in Roon (or, in this case, not seeing). We’re very sorry about the trouble…
Thanks for researching this:

We’re very sorry a manual reinstall isn’t possible. In the past, it has proven to solve many graphic issues.
It’s great to see that you’re able to make improvements to the graphics card . Please, let us know how this goes.
As far as your USB storage device goes, Roon can only access the music as long as the connection to the drive is active. If, when active, the drive spins, then it is expected for the drive to keep spinning if it is accessible in Roon
That argument simply makes no sense. It takes 3-5 seconds to spin up a hard drive. When it is needed by a user request or Roon scan etc. it can spin up. When not needed - a vast majority of the day - why on earth does Roon need to keep it alive? I was a software developer for 27 years and know that it can be done properly. I was under the impression that it was only NAS drives that Roon kept spinning. So it that true for internal HDDs as well?
