None of my HomePods are addressable

Same issue. It works towards my Denon receiver on Airplay but none of my HomePods are addressable.

Hi @Kristof_Rutten

So we can better assist you, please provide a brief description of your current setup using this link as a guide.

Make sure to describe your network configuration/topology, including any networking hardware currently in use, so we can have a clear understanding of how your devices are communicating.

When you start playback do you receive any errors?

Are you playing to HomePods as a group or individually?

Roon is running on a VM in ProxMox. Debian buster, as naked as can be. Ethernet connected on 4Gbit/LACP to a Unifi switch. HomePod is running on Unifi 6LR APs. No ACL/Firewall/Blocks

I can see the HomePods in Roon. They are addressable on their static IP. HomePods are on 14.4.

The stream or music simply doesn’t start. In the logfiles I see the device says ‘stopped’.

Regular AirPlay to those devices works from Mac/iOS.

There are no explicit errors in the logs.

AirPlay to my Denon amp does work and is stable.

I’ve tried both solo and grouped. No success.

@dylan This is the output from the logfiles. As you can see it throws an error on the Announce.

I used a paired pair of HomePods in Roon and had the DSP setup to mute the opposite channel. Is it possible that the HomePods have been designated such that they are muted now?

Can you switch the orientation (L-R) in the Home app and see if they start playing?

Just my empathetic thoughts to a fellow HomePod user.

Good luck.

Tom

@dbtom2 Always thankful for offered help

The orientation of a paired Homepod you mean? I’ve even tried it towards one of my mini’s. They are running solo on the network.

Not orientation. If you’ve used Roon DSP to mute a channel (L on Right, R on Left) to achieve a stereo pair (this is a workaround explained elsewhere on this forum).

If you haven’t used DSP, then that isn’t the solution.

HomePods sound great. Really, really good. But I’ve noticed lately - in my listening outside of Roon - how confused they become. They’ll play Apple Music or continue with a podcast when I’ve started listening to another.

If a Roon DSP mixup isn’t the solution, then I’m not sure what could be the issue.

HomePods follow the WiFi router that is being used by the iPhone that set them up. Once, when my HomePods disappeared completely from Roon, I realized my phone was connected to my Hotspot and not the home router. The HomePods were also connected to that hotspot. Once I connected my phone to the home router, the HomePods followed and re-appeared in Roon.

I love my HomePods and am disappointed Apple is discontinuing them, Then again, sometimes they are too smart for their (and my) own good.

Good luck.

Tom

Wild guess: are your HomePods set to ‘Anyone On The Same Network’ in Home Settings > Allow Speaker & TV Access in the Home app?

I guess the HomePods do play other Airplay sources than Roon?

HA! @RBM that was spot on. I had it set to Only People Sharing this Home.
