Its showing DSD512 as a valid format for playback. Yet there is nowhere to select DSD512 only DSD256(which works great). I’m using a Singxer SU1 with the DSD512 driver.
Hello @Peter_Pizzurro,
Are you referring to DSD 512 not showing up in the sample rate conversion page of the DSP settings? What operating system are you using?
-John
DSD512 shows up green on available sample rates. Yet I have no way to select it as an option. I am using Windows 10 and the Singxer driver that is said to support DSD512.
If my PC isn’t up to the task of converting to DSD512 could that be a reason it’s not allowing me to select it?
I just built this PC for the sole purpose of a Roon Core. It has an AMD A8-9600 quad-core at 3.1 that is able to boost to 3.4ghz. When converting to 256DSD my CPU usage is around 30% while playing directly from Core machine.
Hello @Peter_Pizzurro,
The DSP engine constantly monitors the resource utilization of the Core when it is enabled, and it will dynamically disable options that would cause instability based on that data. The requirement gap between DSD256 and DSD512 isn’t a linear increase, it’s greater than a 2x requirement, due to the fact that DSD512 requires such high sample rates that it becomes even more difficult to parallelize the operation.

John,
Thanks for the replies. So if wanted to use DSD512 what CPU am I looking for. I currently have an AMD mobo. Which CPU do you recommend for DSD512. Is it possible to use a Ryzen 2400G? That would be nice since I don’t have a discrete GPU. Or do I need to step up to a Ryzen 1600/1700 x series and a discrete GPU?
What processing speed does Roon show on the signal pathway when you are playing DSD256?
Have you got parrallelize delta sigma modulator checked?
Also have you checked the native DSD box?
And what DAC are you using?

It shows 1.6x
Yes
Yes
Gustard X20 Pro via:Singxer SU-1 IIS connection.
If I enable DoP processing drops to 1.5 for same song.
Here’s a comparison between the A8-9600 and an Intel i5 7400:

I use an i7 7700. An AMD chip that matches that should be fine, but I have seen pics of Roon upsampling to DSD 512 with a late model i5.
The A8 only cost me $50. Lol. Looks like I’m gonna try a newer, faster CPU.
As it looks I’m probably better off building a nice gaming PC and running Roon from it.
Thanks for all the replies!
With a NUC when I was upsampling to DSD256 I got a value of 2 which went down to 1.2-1.3 with 512. If yours went down by a similar margin you’d probably be under the magic 1.2 level and it wouldn’t work.
I wasn’t aware that roon dynamically disabled options but this would make sense I feel in your scenario.

So I’m looking for the fastest single core processing possible in my current CPU form factor?
Yes, get the fastest chip your MB, budget and cooling solution will support. Single core performance is more important than multi-core.
Awesome! Thank you! As I’m trying to avoid buying a GPU, here’s the fastest chip available for me right now http://www.microcenter.com/product/503184/Ryzen_5_2400G_Quad_Core_AM4_Boxed_Processor_with_Wraith_Stealth_Cooler
Base Frequency: 3.6ghz
Turbo Frequency: 3.9ghz
About 86% of an i7 7700. I’d expect it to upsample DSD 512 in Roon and also do some DSP or multi-Zone.
Thank you! I’ll let you know how it works.
I picked up the Ryzen 2400G. I am still not able to select DSD512. While upsampling PCM to DSD256 my process level is at 3x+ now. My CPU usage is around 10%.
Not sure what’s going on but now I have crackles and pops that are audible. Only happens when converting to DSD.
You see DSD 512 as green in Device Setup but don’t have an option to choose DSD 512 in the DSP Upsampling menu ?
Is DoP disabled (IIS DSD 512 is native DSD) ?
Can you post a screenshot of the DSP Upsampling options screen ?
Crackles and pops may resolve with more headroom.
Ok. I’ve figured a few things out. I am now able to select DSD512 in the drop down menu. But it would play with no sound output. I checked my drivers for my DDC USB audio bridge and it is up to date. I did a bit of research and found out that it needs firmware update to be able to output DSD512 via IIS into Gustard X20 Pro. Maybe I’ll tackle that at a later time.
So now I’m trying to play DSD256 and am getting some distortion. It sounds like what one would hear listening to dirty vinyl. I enabled Headroom but it didn’t seem to help at all.
Not sure how this new, much more powerful CPU is giving me issues converting PCM to DSD256.
Try increasing the headroom by -3dB at a time and see if it makes a difference. I use between -7 and -9 dB of headroom for DSD 512 and convolution.
IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT!!!
What a night! I could not find the source of my newly found static noise.(Which ended up being in all formats of audio on both Tidal player and Roon) I went through and carefully bundled/placed every cable inside my PC case. That didn’t fix it. So I removed my cheap $40 PSU and swapped I’m a brand new $100 PSU that I purchased for an upcoming gaming build. That didn’t do it. So I went ahead and meticulously bundled/placed every single cable around my desk. That did squat! I did a full reinstall of Windows and all necessary software and drivers. That didn’t work. As I was just about to toss the whole damned thing out the window I decided to check the only farkin thing I changed that lead up to this, the CPU. I put the old A8 proc. back in a what do you know, it works!!!
Well I am off to work now. Hopefully I get no issues returning this new chip I bought.
