This page from the KB sets out some circumstances in which files might not be imported and some steps you can take to cure particular issues. As a cross-platform application Roon might be fussier about file names than Sooloos.
As you can see, Force Rescan is the first step, and that won’t crash the system, but it will recommence the scanning process. Files which have been properly imported will take very little time to be rescanned, so it won’t redo the original analysis.
Are you able to identify some of the files that are not importing ? If that isn’t immediately clear or would be a large task then the good news is that in 1.3 Roon will report which files it has failed to import so they can be found and addressed. The frustrating news is that 1.3 is still in testing, but the team are all focussed on getting it into the hands of users as soon as it meets their standards.
If you can identify files that are failing to import and don’t come within the categories described above then @Eric is likely to gather an example from you and figure out exactly what the problem is. He is away at the moment returning on Tuesday.
On top of Andy’s advice … one thing to note is that a double album in Sooloos is counted a 2 albums … in Roon it is only counted once. Thus comparing tracks is a more reliable measure.
Carl, looks like you are correct. Roon shows 218,676 files and I just checked to see that a Sooloos export on another 5TB HDD shows 218,680 files. That said I noticed one of a 2 album set missing yesterday - I should have noted it down but stupidly did not. However I might be able to backtrack and locate it.
As a precaution, before closing Sooloos down completely, I’m doing a second export of the 4.21TB of files using this PC onto another spare 5TB HDD - a slow process taking many days using USB3. I should have used the e-Sata link on the Notebook but had earlier problems because the notebook appeared to run out of memory to handle the export so kept going off line. Weird. The files manage to squeeze onto that 5TB HDD but there is not much spare room. I originally exported onto a 6TB HDD for Roon so there is ample space to spare here,
I’ve done a rescan but nothing showed up as “re-discovered”. So the “missing” album referred to above might have been missed in the original export and, from the file count, would appear to be the only one not there. It should not be too hard to track it down.
I generally avoid dipping into new PC programs but the challenge of Roon is not too bad so far and the rewards are exciting.
LOL. now here is an odd discovery - Roon has an album in the library that is not even on Sooloos!!!
Sooloos has only one album for the artists “The All Star Percussion Ensemble”. It has 4 tracks. It is also on Roon but in addition there is another similar (but not the same) album with 6 tracks. If this has happened more than once, which is highly likely, then it confounds the track count!!!
Not so sure about having “gained” extra albums as what is happening is that Roon is identifying artists differently than in Sooloos (which could because of my editing). Double checking some others by a track search has revealed this.
