Hello. Not sure if I installed the ffmpeg codec correctly. I downloaded and extracted the ffmpeg codec from the link provided by Roon. Actually, I extracted the file, twice. I ended up with a file named “ffmpeg-git-amd64-static”. It is a TAR file. I placed it in the codecs folder, as instructed. After I rebooted the Core, running on an i5 NUC, the web UI still shows “missing codecs”. Am I doing something wrong?
You need to extract the content of the .tar
file to locate the binary.

That’s what I kind of figured, but I just send up with the file that I mentioned. I’m running Windows 10 and used 7zip. I’ll try again, tomorrow.
The file you downloaded, called ffmpeg-git-amd64-static.tar.xz
, is a tar
archive contained in a compressed xz
archive.
Therefore, extract the tar
first to a folder, i.e., ffmpeg-git-amd64-static.tar
, and then open this again with 7zip to extract the tar archive to another folder. Within this you’ll find the executable.
The file you need is is simply called ffmpeg
.
Also many users experience issues with codecs when copying via Linux or macOS, the access rights are not set correctly.
