Description of Issue

I’m using Roon on a PC with two screens plugged in. With other players I can have the Now Playing on the second screen and have the primary one for the player and work (Theater mode on Muiscbee, fpr example). Is this possible with Roon or there’s only the option of doing this through Chromecast or web display?

My secondary display is a TV that is far away, so not convenient to just move Roon into that display.

Renato, Roon is designed as a monolithic application for control on each device, and does not currently have a “mini player” similar to other music applications. I haven’t use the web display previously but just tried it. Does this or using Chromecast not do what you need, where the web display could be used on your second screen and the main Roon application on the primary screen? The web display seems like a nice option from what I saw.

Hi Robert, thank you for the reply! I don’t currently have a chromecast with me but I could always get one.

As to the web display, I tried it and it didn’t work. I’ve probably done it wrong though. The TV is connected to my router via Wifi but everything would have to be set within a network, right? Can you point me to more detailed instructions on web display?

Sure Renato. I followed the instructions linked here for Displays in Roon:

With the Roon Core running, I went to Settings → Displays, then copied the link under Web Display. I pasted that in my browser and the Roon logo appeared. Next, from any zone, I could select the Display icon when I selected the endpoint zone speaker and the display icon. The web page then displays that zone’s music in the web browser. Worked quickly and easily. Control remains with the Roon app and not in the browser itself.

Does this help?

Doesn’t work for me but I suspect that’s because they are not in the same network. As far as networks go, the TV is connected to wifi but not the PC that gets a connection with a different name via ethernet. And the PC has no wifi capability whatsoever as it is.

I’ll get a wifi dongle and a chromecast this weekend and see how that goes.

Thanks for the help!

Renato, sorry to hear that it’s not working (yet). Yes, all devices have to be on the same network (technically the same subnet, or using IP addresses similar to 192.168.x.y or 10.0.a.b where the first three sets of numbers are identical for all connected devices).

Is the PC using Ethernet connected to the same router that is providing the Wi-Fi connections?

Hi! Yes, the PC is plugged to the same router but for some reason that wasn’t working. I know virtually nothing about configuring networks etc, so I wouldn’t even know what to check or where.

I did get a chromecast this morning and everything is working just fine now!

Thank you for your time and help, it’s much appreciated!

So why does it matter if and how the TV is connected to the network? Just open a(nother) browser window on your PC, set it up as a web display for Roon and move it to your second monitor (the TV) and you’re done.

That’s another good option to use the Web Display function on the second monitor.
