The book that the movie is based on is much better than and vastly different from the movie. Call it the just another variation.
Yes, after watching the film, I read up on the plot and noticed that the book is set in the late 90s, whereas, the film was set in the late 50s. Also different storyline in the film.
I found the film okay, mainly because of the Jazz soundtrack, I think.
Of the two albums posted, I prefer the one with the bridge on the cover.

Good luck trying to find this analog recording in digital form. Bishop Norman Williams was a legend in his hometown of San Francisco and when visiting SF back in the summer of 1979 I even had the chance to see him in concert.
