Now Playing Some Jazz [2021-2022]

Was fortunate to see Avishai Cohen trio recently at the Ghent Jazz Festival. Very impressive experience. If you choose to listen to the album I recommend you pay attention to Roni Kaspi the young drummer. IMO she’s one extremely talented musician that showed skill and maturity beyond her years on this album.

Is it jazz? Don’t know and don’t really care since Rabih Abou-Khalil is always worth listening to. His recordings are well represented on both Tidal and Qobuz. The recording below is more “international” and less jazz than some of his earlier recordings but no less enjoyable.

Hell yes, great pick!

Listening to this new release (available on Tidal and Qobuz) and enjoying every minute of it. Louie is just so easy to listen to and always puts a smile on my face. Louis Armstrong was a gift from the heavens. May his wonderful music continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.

thanks for posting this. I searched for Enrico Rava and got zero hits in Roon. added Fred Hersch to the string, and still nada.

searched instead for The Song is You, this filtered the results for Fred, and there is was.

in MQA no less.

Roon search sucks, but MQA is great.

I’ve uncovered several new instances of problems with Search, but haven’t bothered to report them as it doesn’t seem to do any good.

It seems the only way to find something is to know you have it. :smirk:

Downtown New York style jazz. Although I have 8 Claudia Quintet albums in my Roon library there are only one or two available on Tidal/Qobuz.

Tonight’s Vinyl Hour featured this fine 1989 release from the highly underrated and completely overlooked Buck Hill:

Here’s the listing from Roon along with the review:

also, where do you find Capital Hill in Roon? maybe it’s not available in the US?

Lost a rectifier tube on my pre-amp.
After a couple of days, I remember my DAC could act as a pre-amp.

My copy in Roon is a rip of a CD that I borrowed from a friend. Seems to still be available on Amazon

I figured that since I already owned the vinyl, ripping a borrowed CD is almost okay

Good job remembering… looking for tubes lately can be painful, both finding and paying for.

I bought my pre-amp and amp from Upscale Audio, so I have no trouble getting tubes.

Stiil, after a few days of listening over headphones it’s good to get back to whole room speakers. :sunglasses:

1961 Blakey, very engaging.
