Now playing some sweet Soul, R&B and Funk

At the start I was worried the entire song would be in ‘chipmunks’ style  but fortunately that was very minimal.

Really nice remix indeed. Good find !

The whole album is worth checking out! This one is very D’Angelo (Palladino has played with the giant).

Perhaps Femi Kuti can go here also for the Afrobeat…I don’t like ignoring these awesome specialist threads.

Along the same lines (I’m not religious, this video below is just for the crazy vocals):

This video below is PEAK Whitney Houston joining the legendary BeBe and CeCe Winans at a Gospel awards show.

Even at the peak of her fame, to escape the lights and all the pressures she felt with being a global star, she loved to get back to her gospel roots and would turn up to churches un-announced and jam with the choirs. No reporters and cameras around. Just church goers and lots of really good singers.

It’s even reported she did this a couple weeks before her death.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. I tried to sing along with these 3 and I’ve lost my voice for the next week I think :grinning:

How she was able to get so many great features and producers as an indie artist on debut… I can only guess she has loaded parents that funded it :grinning:

Regardless, beautiful debut album. Very 1990’s R&B influenced.

She’s very proud of her Japanese and Afro-American roots and it shines on this great track.

I never understood why Cold Blood didn’t take off. Lydia Pense had the voice and stage presence; the band was tight, with horns and hooks; the songs were both radio and concert worthy. She was there in the Bay Area right at liftoff, just at the same time as Janis, the Airplane, Creedence, the Dead. Somehow, just didn’t happen.
