Now you see it, now you dont

This relates a bit to my issues with (Frank Zappa) box sets earlier.

On my server I have two versions of Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here, one [192/24] and the other [SACD], but only the [192/24] showed up in roon.
Navigating by folder i found the DSD version, tagged it and grouped the tracks and had ROON identify it as that album (SACD), But it doesnt show up under ARTIST / Pink Floyd at all. But I can find it in Search “wish you were here” as the correct version taggad correctly, but why the h**l doesnt it show up as an album in the pink floyd discography filtered excluding Qobuz results? If I filter including Qobuz it shows up (But Qobux does not host any SACD albums)

Applying this filtering above, does not apply to my issues with my Frank Zappa box sets.

I come to roon after 15years with LMS (Lyrion Music Server) where none of this was an issue.

Check the “Versions” tab near the bottom of your screenshot there.

Yes, What can I do here? No real options

I also see that the Zappa boxes appear as “Versions” which the arent. How do I remove them from “versions” and to appear as regular albums?

Do you have “Show Hidden Tracks and Albums” turned on in your Settings?

Yes, thats active to show

I don’t use streaming so I will not be the most useful person here. However, does the album in question appear in your “Overview” for Pink Floyd?

it has been my understanding that discography section is more focused on what you do not have rather than what you do have, and the “Overview” is more focused on what you do have…if that makes sense…

P.S.: I use LMS in parallel and do appreciate that Roon can be more confusing in this dimension…

This is more of a general support question, not metadata; moving to Support .

Your Zappa Halloween issue is currently being fixed by TiVo.

Excellent!

It’s been mentioned already but have you switched “show hidden tracks and albums” to on? It’s not clear if you have already tried that.

Hello @Peter_Aspegren1 ,

As others have mentioned, the first setting to check is show hidden tracks and albums. If you’ve checked this and the issue is still the same, can you please confirm if you have made any other metadata edits to this album using a 3rd party metadata editing program? If you open the edit view of the SACD album, what do you see listed there, can you share a screenshot?

Thats been tested. No luck.

This switch is set to YES, i.e. To show any hidden tracks and albums.

I have tested several ways; imported ripped files as is, Imported files which have been tagged in MPTag or dB Poweramp. Also tested with only basic tags and all record company info, like catalogue#, UPC code record label etc. Whatever, the end result have been the same: I dont get Roon to diplay all disc as separate albums /shows as I wish. I think I have explored all the various methods I can think of, which seem logical. Usually, with the box sets, Roon displays only one of the Disc shows, in the Artist Discography normally, but in My Library/ Albums, all can be found.

I didn’t see your response re: whether or not they are reported in the “Overview” page for Pink Floyd?

Well only the SACD version is visable now, because I eventually deleted the 24/192 version to make the SACD version visable.

Does not and is not supposed to show every version in your library, by default, that is the job of the Overview Tab. The setting others have suggest you change only sets the default viewing in both the Album section, and the Artist Overview section. It has no bearing on the Artist Discography section

The Artist Discography/Overview sections were re-done and debuted in ver 1.8. At the time, I asked about the behavior and was told that the section was to give a quick “uncluttered” view of the Artist’s work, not your library.

Overview vs Discography

With a streaming service enabled, Roon makes a distinction between what’s shown on Overview and Discography (btw,There is no Discography section if you don’t have a streaming service):

Overview - This is the place to see every single edition of every single album in your library. This section respects the “Show Hidden” setting.

Discography - This is a comprehensive view of the artists career with tools like Focus. Roon shows each album once and other editions are available via each album’s Versions tab. This section does not respect the “Show Hidden” setting.

Possible Solution:
You might be able to change which version is PRIMARY under the Album Version screen. If Roon recognizes your album and the streaming service albums as the same, then the Primary Version will be chosen as the one displayed inArtist Discography (see below for setting location). OR, instead of deleting the album, if you were to have gone to the PCM version and made it “Unidentified” then that would force Roon to treat it as a separate object.

OK, I think that makes me understand better how Roon treats my library. You might consider this a bit complicated and not so straight forward that Discography (With or woithout streaming service) differs from Overview, which gives you the idea to precent a more condensed view. A bit more straight forward way was to have only Discography , with or without any streaming service. (and maybe a preset on how you want this to be displayed.
