Description of Issue

I have a 1 TB portable HDD attached to the NUC via USB-C.
Roon doesn’t have any problem reading it or accessing files on it.

What I am curious about is why sometimes I can access it via Mac Finder - Network but other times it won’t allow me to access that way.
I thought I had figured out that Roon has to be open and running but that doesn’t always work either.

Does Rock have a password, or does Rock assign attached storage a password?

Finder and Rock have been running since 8:00am today, still giving me the ‘permission’ error.
Yesterday, I opened both and after an hour the attached storage was unlocked.

Hey @John_Campbell1,

Ben here with the support team, thanks for writing in.

Are you able to access your portable HDD on other remotes outside of your MBP? Here is a free app to help test over iOS

If possible, are you able to try using the USB-A port on your ROCK?

After doing a bit of research on your specific HDD, we were able to learn that the disk itself can enter a sleep mode within 15-20 minutes of no activity. Read more about this here. Do you typically run into this issue after not playing audio from your local library?

We’ll monitor this thread for your reply :+1:

Hi Ben,
I can see all of the folders and files on my iPhone via the app you linked to.
I can not access the storage on either of my MBPs.

I don’t see to have any problems playing any of the files on there but I’ll check that again so I can get you a more certain answer.

Thanks!

Verified Roon can play files on the drive.
I am unable to drag/drop files to it though.

Thanks for letting me know @John_Campbell1! When trying to drag and drop files, what happens specifically? Do you see an error message? Any additional info here would be helpful.

When on your Macbook, try the following:

On your Mac, select the disk, then choose File > Get Info. Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions to expand that section. If the lock at the bottom left is locked, click it to unlock the preference pane. Select the “Ignore ownership on this volume” checkbox.

Thanks!

On one of my MBPs it just unlocked now!
I didn’t do anything differently.

On both/either MBP the file would spring back to its original location if dragging/dropping when it was locked.

‘get info’ permissions always show as ‘read - write’ but I don’t see the ‘ignore’ option.
