NUC with ROCK unable to connect to Roon servers and facing "Missing Codecs" issue after reset (ref#W61GSX)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Good morning,
When I turned on the NUC with Roon ROCK installed, Version 2.1 (build 271) production, it was unable to connect to your servers.

I tried: changing the Ethernet cable, changing the modem router port of my network provider, restarting the modem router, restarting the NUC several times, and reinstalling the ROCK OS version from the web form. But nothing happened. The NUC is pingable. Then I tried to reset it via the Roon Database & Settings web form. Now it says “Missing Codecs” and I can no longer access it via the Roon Windows client; it keeps asking me to log in. I am asking for your help in resolving these issues. Thank you very much.

Probably I made mistake but following these suggestions: Accessing Internal Storage via Local Network

If you want to access the internal storage folder over the network, follow the steps below.

  1. On your computer, open your file explorer (File Explorer in Windows, Finder in macOS).

  2. Connect to the network share by typing the following address:

    • For Windows:

      • ROCK: \\ROCK\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

      For Mac:

      • ROCK: smb://ROCK/Data/Storage/InternalStorage

If prompted for a username and password, enter Guest for both.

I faced an error when try to login to the ROCK Server.

Thank you very much and sorry for the delay.

I have now turned on the ROCK server and will leave it on.

Thanks again

Luca

Please read the article that @BlackJack referred you to in full - it contains the steps that you need to apply to Windows to adjust its SMB access behaviour.

After this power-on, now only the Missing Codecs problem remains, but I cannot connect to the Roon Server with User/Password Guest.

Sigh - please read the article. In particular, the section that begins:

In case you see the error like in the screenshot below, do not panic. Modern versions of Windows have security settings that may block guest access to network shares by default.

Hello and thank you.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find what @Geoff_Coupe wrote in the article (surely my fault), but no problem, with the help of AI I managed to configure my Win PC to access the data directory, I copied the codec file and now everything works.

Thank you all for your help and sorry if I didn’t understand some of the suggestions right away.

Luca
