NUC8I7BEH internal storage upgrade

I’ve read several posts on this forum related to NUC/Nucleus internal storage upgrades. Some had more steps than others, i.e logging out and back in to Roon, but most were basically the same.

I was a little apprehensive, haven’t opened mine up in the 2.5 years since the original build, but it went smoothly with the following steps.

Made a clean full copy of internal storage to a new USB 2TB SSD, and had a database backup from this morning.

  1. Used the WEB UI to power down.
  2. Swapped the original 1TB SSD with the 4TB SSD in the cradle without disconnecting the
    cables from the motherboard.
  3. Powered up.
  4. Stopped the Roon server software.
  5. Formatted the drive.
  6. Pasted the clean copy to the new internal storage. About 1.5 hours over the network.
  7. Started the Roon server software.

Recent Activity looked the same except for the first 3 entries that were listed as added today. Say what!!

Happy that I didn’t need to disconnect the power and data cables from the motherboard, had issued getting those seated correctly during the original build.

Had planned to check the fan I’ve never heard for dust accumulation but apparently it is under the motherboard and I didn’t want to remove it. I’ll save that for another time.

All is well, just curious why I have 3 new entries added today.

For what it’s worth I also upgraded my ROCK 8i7 today from. 1TB to 4TB internal SSD

I’ve only had mine for 24 hours (I bought a used one in a fanless case, but the SSD was a bit small for my needs). I had restored the backup from my Mac mini, and got the ROCK running.

My experience was the same, change the media SSD was very easy, without the need to do anything on the main motherboard (which in my case may have involved thermal paste!).

And roon did a great job at preserving the ‘when added dates’.

Hello Greg,

I recognize the 3 that showed up as “added today”, 2 dsd download samples and a duplicate album. Pretty sure I had deleted them from Roon.

Suspect the entries were removed from the database but the files were still on the drive and got added back as new during the process.
