· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

My nucleus works like a charm with Roon tunes but blocked my ability to play my own music

Hello @Dr_Dave_Barr,

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you please provide a few more details about the problem?

Specifically, how is the issue manifesting?

  • Is your library appearing completely empty, even though you know the files are present in your storage location?
  • Or do the tracks appear in the list but are marked as "Unavailable" (grayed out)?
Screenshots of what you are seeing on your screen would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

Everything looks fine! The problem is all get offered are Roon tunes. When I first hooked up the Nucleus One I lost the ability to connect to my own tunes. I have tried to download my music to the nucleus one but when I plug it into the SS connection on the Nucleus nothing happens

Hi @Dr_Dave_Barr,

Where does your local library live?

Can you provide more information here? How did you attempt to download your music to your Nucleus? Did you insert an additional internal music storage SSD into the Nucleus?

Thank you!

need advice on nucleus One.

Most people install a drive in their Nucleus to store their music. You then go to Roon - Settings - Storage and connect that drive as your “watched folder.”

PS: there is no such thing as “Roon tunes.” Roon does not have any music of it’s own. It’s either your local music files or Tidal, Qobuz, or KKBox.

I should say, your “watched folder” does not have to be an internal drive. It can be another networked drive, but it needs to be set up as your “watched folder” for Roon to see it.

Just to add for clarification that an internally installed drive doesn’t have to be (and shouldn’t be) added explicitly as a watched folder, as it’s automatically available as „Internal Storage“ in Settings > Storage.

An externally connected drive, however, has to be like this:

Hi @Dr_Dave_Barr,

We wanted to check in and see if you were still running into any issues getting your local library squared away with your Nucleus.

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· After multiple failures I got the Nucleus One to download my personal music files. Nothing short of a miracle!

Tell us about your home network

· I can't access my music unless I leave the drive connected to Nucleus One. Can those files be shifted so I can access without the drive being in Nuleus One

Hello @Dr_Dave_Barr,

To answer your question: yes, the music files must remain physically connected to the Nucleus for Roon to play them. Think of the Nucleus as the “brain” of your system—it needs to have constant access to the “memory” (your music files) to stream them to your speakers.

If you are currently using an external USB drive and want to “shift” the files so you can access them over your home network (for example, to add new music from your computer), you can do this using a technology called SMB.

Here is how you can access the storage inside your Nucleus from your PC or Mac:

1. Connect via Windows PC

  • Open File Explorer.
  • In the address bar, type \\NUCLEUSONE\InternalStorage (or \\NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage if you are using an external USB drive).
  • If prompted for a username or password, you can leave them blank or enter guest.

2. Connect via Mac

  • Open Finder.
  • Press Command + K (or select Go > Connect to Server).
  • Type smb://NUCLEUSONE/InternalStorage (or smb://NUCLEUSONE/Data/Storage).
  • Connect as a “Guest.”

Once connected, your Nucleus storage will appear just like a folder on your computer. You can drag and drop new music into this folder, and Roon will automatically detect and add it to your library.

Note: If you are using an external USB drive, it must stay plugged into the Nucleus “SS” port for Roon to function. If you prefer not to have a drive sticking out of the back, many users choose to install an internal 2.5" SATA SSD inside the Nucleus One.

Please let us know if you have any trouble accessing the folder!
